Posted Tuesday, 3 February, 2009
WASHINGTON, D.C. – SunTrust Bank is on board for a second year as title sponsor of the National Marathon. SunTrust will sponsor the District’s annual springtime marathon for three more years. The partnership will be long-lived and will help to support the Greater Washington community. The 4th Annual SunTrust National Marathon & Half Marathon, dated March 21st, 2009, is the only marathon run entirely within the District of Columbia.
SunTrust is highly committed to community relations and the sustained welfare of their employees. The National Marathon provides local SunTrust employees with the opportunity to take part in race-related volunteer and team building activities. SunTrust aims to encourage runners via water stations, course motivation sections, and finish line festivities. “As a dedicated bank to the Greater Washington region, we encourage the mission set fourth by the Greater Washington Sports Alliance. We are excited to, once again, be the foremost supporter of what we consider Washington’s local marathon,” says Scott Wilfong, Chairman, President and CEO of SunTrust Bank, Greater Washington/Maryland.
SunTrust Bank, Inc. is one of the nation’s largest commercial banking organizations with more than 1600 locations in the Southeast and Mid-Atlantic regions, over 270 of which are located within the Greater Washington region. SunTrust’s unique community outreach activities display their effort to enrich client neighborhoods. “SunTrust is enthusiastically welcomed back for another year of continuous support and community involvement. We look forward to putting on another successful race with our title sponsor,” says Robert Sweeney, President of Greater Washington Sports Alliance.
Another way SunTrust focuses on community initiative is through their ‘My Cause’ program that gives clients the choice to have SunTrust make a $100 donation in their name to the charity of their choice or to receive a $50 gift card for their own personal use. Greater Washington Sports Alliance and SunTrust are both highly interested in the Greater Washington community as a whole. The Greater Washington Sports Alliance and the National Marathon focus community efforts on a youth fitness initiative, the Junior Monumental Milers Program (JuMMP). Going into its second year, this 23-week run/walk program promotes youth health and physical fitness along with learning healthy eating habits. JuMMP culminates on race day at the SunTrust National Marathon & Half Marathon.
Wide-spread media coverage of the SunTrust National Marathon will be relayed during the weeks prior to and on race day. Television advertisements will be broadcasted on NBC4 six weeks before the event, in addition to live race day coverage. Advertisements will be printed in the Washington Times giving the SunTrust National Marathon more exposure in the Greater Washington community.
