Virginia Beach, VA., (March 26, 2009) -- As preparations for the ninth annual Rock 'n' Roll Half Marathon Virginia Beach, presented by SunTrust, get underway, event organizers have issued a fitness challenge to local organizations. The 'Get Fit Challenge' invites organized groups of 10 or more runners and walkers to train together, have fun outside the office and improve their fitness.

Each Get Fit Challenge team member will receive special benefits, including an automatic $10 off the individual registration fee, free access to New Balance's online Active Trainer and prizes to the three largest and fastest teams in each of the four divisions. Challenge teams will be divided into four categories: corporate (co-workers and business associates), clubs (running, triathlon, biking, walking, surfing, swimming, etc.), education (teachers, professors, students, alumni and administrative staff) and military (Air Force, Army, Coast Guard, Marine Corps, Navy, Reserves or National Guard).

"We're excited to offer a program like the 'Get Fit Challenge' as a way to inspire and energize the Virginia Beach community," said Megan Bitsoff, event manager. "The program is a great way to motivate and create camaraderie among employees while they work toward completing the 13.1 mile distance as a team."

Unique Rock 'n' Roll Half Marathon plaques will be presented to the top three teams in each division for the teams with the greatest number of finishers, as well as the fastest finishing times. The fastest teams will be determined by combining the top three finish times per team.

Teams entering the 'Get Fit Challenge' should choose a team name and select a team captain. To register, visit RNRVB.com and select the '1/2 Marathon - Get Fit Challenge' option. Each team's captain will receive an email from race organizers containing detailed team member registration instructions. Friends and family are welcome to participate as a part of any 'Get Fit Challenge' team, but their times will not be considered for awards and prizes.

The Rock 'n' Roll Half Marathon is set for September 6, 2009. In addition to live bands along the course, the scenic tour along the Virginia Beach oceanfront will feature hundreds of local high school cheerleaders and several themed neighborhood cheering stations along the course, providing entertainment and motivation to runners and walkers. The event will conclude with a finish line party and a headliner concert on the sand.
