Columbia, MD – February 28, 2005 – The Road Runners Club of America (RRCA) is pleased to announce the appointment of two new State Representatives in their Eastern Region: John Goldrosen who will support Massachusetts and Phil Lang who will support Maryland.
John Goldrosen began running road races in 1983, when he was in his 30s. Since then, he has completed hundreds of races including 31 marathons; he recently started enjoying trail running as well. Goldrosen joined the Colonial Road Runners (CRR) in southeastern Massachusetts in 1985 and became their president in 2001. Since his tenure as president, the CRR tripled in size and has experienced increased attendance at weekly group training runs, summer and winter fun runs, and club social events. The club has introduced new activities including club teams for New England relay races, a children's track race series, and a trail race. Besides the events that the club itself organizes, CRR also encourages its members to compete in other local road races through a club "Grand Prix" competition. And they provide volunteers and timing services for several community charity races. As a "middle-of-the-pack" runner who has never won a race, Goldrosen is proud of CRR's reputation as a club for runners of all abilities, "from 5-minute milers to 5-hour marathoners." When he is not running, Goldrosen works as an attorney, specializing in land use and municipal law.
Phil Lang started running in Columbia, Maryland at Oakland Mills High School where, as a senior, he captained the state championship XC team in the fall of 1984. Lang went on to run for a year and a half at UMBC (Division 1) and two and a half years at Frostburg State University (Division 3), both schools in Maryland. After college, he became a member of the Howard County Striders’ Board of Directors, served as race director for the Columbia Metric Marathon for 5 years, and served as President of the club in 2004. He and his wife, Vicki, who he met on the track at Frostburg, have coached at Oakland Mills High School the last 10 years during which time the boys XC team won three state championship titles. His daughters, Tiffany and Brittany, are also runners and participate with the Junior Striders. Lang’s favorite distance is the marathon in which he enjoys a PR of 2:50. He has finished 30 marathons to date including the Boston Marathon 12 times. Lang is a vice president in the Commercial Lending Division in a small bank in Baltimore.
Brent Ayer, Eastern Director of RRCA, stated, “We are very pleased to have Phil and John join our State Rep program. The State Reps are a very important part of the Road Runners Club of America; they serve as critical liaisons between our clubs and the national office. We are very fortunate to have such talented individuals serving in Maryland and Massachusetts.”
The Road Runners Club of America, the nation’s largest single voice supporting long-distance running, is a national association of not-for-profit running clubs dedicated to promoting long-distance running as a competitive sport and as healthful exercise. The RRCA’s mission is to represent and promote the common interest of its more than 670 member clubs that include over 160,000 individual runners through education, leadership, programs and other services.
