QUANTICO, Va. - (April 21, 2006) - Road race directors, staff and officials are invited to register for the Marine Corps Marathon Race Director Boot Camp, three days of intense Marine Corps-style training, welcoming a new class of recruits to the ranks of the few, the proud, the Race Directors.

Field exercises will take place on October 27-28 at the Hyatt Regency Washington on Capitol Hill, the Race Headquarters Hotel. Regardless of MOS (military occupational specialty), recruits will be briefed in a massive arsenal of topics including race technology, maximizing media, police participation, youth fitness, volunteers and more. Recruits will practice recon drills at the MCM Health and Fitness Expo on October 28 and later, join marathon candidates in the mess hall at the MCM Carbo Dining In.

On October 29, recruits can observe all tasks to accomplish mission at hand as they witness the 31st Marine Corps Marathon with a VIP pass. Or they can choose to PT (physical training) by falling in with MCM or 10K runners at the start line.

"This isn't a sit around and sip your ice water while staring at a PowerPoint conference. This is an intense presentation of event intel," warns Rick Nealis, Commanding Officer of Boot Camp and MCM Race Director. "Think you have what it takes to make it through Race Director Boot Camp? Then report for duty on October 27."

Reserve a spot in the 2006 recruit formation by contacting the MCM office at 800-RUN-USMC or emailing elizabeth.cline@usmc.mil for an application. Recruits will receive the MCM uniform of the day - the coveted MCM mock-neck shirt, as part of the $260 Boot Camp registration fee as well as other boot camp goodies, dinner on Friday and Saturday night, breakfast on Saturday morning, one entry into the MCM or MCM 10K, VIP pass and more!

Voted "Best Marathon for Families" by HerSports Magazine, the Marine Corps Marathon continues a combined tradition of dedication, sportsmanship and patriotism. Since its inception, over 300,000 civilian and military runners from all walks of life have participated, deservingly earning the event its nickname "The People's Marathon." The 31st Marine Corps Marathon will be held on Sunday, October 29, 2006. Rolling Registration opens on May 17, 2006 at noon EST. Visit MarineMarathon.com for more information.
