Posted Thursday, 19 April, 2007
The Marine Corps Marathon (MCM) announced today the return of the MCM10K race, held in conjunction with the annual 26.2-mile event on October 28. Runners of all ages are invited to participate in the 6.2-mile race. Registration opens online at www.marinemarathon.com beginning on May 14. The MCM10K is limited to a race field of 3,500 and runners are encouraged to sign up early to ensure a spot!
“The inaugural MCM10K in 2006 received a tremendously positive response from participants who were dazzled by all the fun of the marathon, but without all the distance,” said Rick Nealis, MCM Race Director. “This year, runners will again experience the same wonderful amenities as the marathoners, tens of thousands of cheering spectators, great volunteer support and energy unmatched in any other 10K.”
The 2007 MCM10K will feature a new start line and course. Beginning at 8:30 a.m., just minutes after marathon runners begin their event, MCM10K runners will take their mark in the North Pentagon parking lot. After the start gun fires, they will quickly meet up with the MCM course and run through the sights and sounds of Crystal City. Then, participants will circle back towards the Pentagon on Route 110, following it all the way to Wilson Boulevard in Rosslyn. The final stretch takes runners back towards the Marine Corps War Memorial to cross the legendary finish line.
Registration is $45 and includes a single-use commemorative ChampionChip, goodie bag, race materials including bib and race program, and MCM10K mock neck shirt. Finishers will receive a medal and plenty of post-race replenishment in the hospitality tent.
The online registration process takes just a few minutes and includes accepting a waiver, completing the registration form, clicking through a payment and receiving a confirmation email. Confirmation emails will include a runner’s registration number, imperative to access e-confirmation cards online beginning in August. E-confirmation cards are required at event check-in.
Voted “Best Marathon for Families”, the Marine Corps Marathon continues a combined tradition of dedication, sportsmanship and patriotism. Runners from all walks of life have participated in the world’s largest marathon to not offer prize money, deservingly earning the nickname “The People’s Marathon.” The 32nd Marine Corps Marathon to be held on October 28, 2007 in Arlington, VA is presented by USAA, Brooks Sports, Inc., and Cisco Systems. Online rolling registration opens May 9 at noon eastern at www.marinemarathon.com
