From Ryan Lamppa, Running USAQUANTICO, Va. - (June 7, 2011) - Starting June 7, any Marine Corps Marathon (MCM) registered runner who is not able to participate in the Sunday, October 30, 2011 event can transfer their entry to a non-registered runner or they can choose to transfer from the full marathon into the MCM10K through the MCM Transfer Program. The online transfer forms are available at www.marinemarathon.com.
All registered MCM participants have until Friday, September 23 to transfer their marathon entries to an unregistered runner. The transfer form must include the runner's confirmation number received upon registration. Once the form is completed, the transferring runner will be emailed a unique code, link and password to send to a runner of their choice, who will gain access to the sold out MCM. The codes will be emailed within four business days.
Only registered participants can transfer their spots in the 36th MCM. New runners will be required to complete a form and pay a $30 transfer fee. All new runners must complete the transfer process no later than September 30.
New runners will receive MCM newsletters, vital race information, finisher certificate, be eligible for awards and be included in 2011 participant results only if the official transfer is completed through the MCM program.
Registered runners wanting to make a transfer can find others seeking a coveted spot in the 36th MCM, through the MCM Facebook page or on the Message Board, located on the website. The 2011 MCM sold out in a record 28 hours when registration opened to the public last February.
The MCM Transfer Program also includes the opportunity for registered participants to transfer from the full marathon into the MCM10K (6.2 mile) at no cost. The MCM10K, which is held annually in conjunction with the MCM, is open to 10,000 participants. The 10K event starts on the National Mall in Washington, DC and finishes with the marathoners at the Marine Corps War Memorial.
Voted the best marathon for families, the Marine Corps Marathon honors the dedication, sportsmanship and patriotism of its participants. Runners from all walks of life participate in the largest marathon not to offer prize money, earning the nickname as "The People's Marathon". The MCM, sponsored by Brooks, Aetna, Arlington, VA and GE, is the fifth largest marathon in the United States and the ninth largest in the world according to Running USA. The 36th MCM will be held on Sunday, Oct. 30 in Arlington, VA.
