Despite one of the warmest mornings and hottest days of the year, a huge number of race records were broken Saturday morning at the second annual New Quarter Park 6K Run in Williamsburg, a Colonial Road Runners Grand Prix event.

Two teenage runners who hadn't yet made it to college were the winners last Saturday of the 10th annual The Vineyards of Williamsburg 5K Run.

Bryce Ruiz and Kristine Wilson won Thursday's Yorktown Freedom Run 5K for the second time, both having won initially two years ago. There Were a record 766 entries in the 14th annual race, held to kick off the Yorktown 4th of July Celebration.

> Williamsburg Jaycees Run for Life 10K
Last year's Colonial Road Runners Grand Prix for the women came down to a close battle between Alison Holinka (who won seven CRR races for 70 points) and runnerup Gina Bohlmann (scoring 59 points in eight races).

It is hard to imagine but in the early 1980's West Virginia high school track and cross country runners were not permitted to run in road races.
