PITTSBURGH, Pa. – The recent addition of a $10,500 prize purse to the inaugural EQT Pittsburgh 10 Miler, set for Sunday, November 3, has attracted a strong field of both established and up-and-coming American and international distance runners. The top five finishers per gender will be awarded prize money with each Open race champion taking home $2500.

The field includes four Americans who have broken 48 minutes for 10 miles: Brent Vaughn, Andrew Carlson, Ian Burrell and Jon Grey. Also, Fernando Cabada, who is the former U.S. 25K record holder and a 3-time national champion, and Jon Peterson, who recently won the Medtronic TC 10 Mile in 49:03, are entered.

“Our inaugural race has attracted a world-class field of runners,” said Patrice Matamoros, Chief Executive Officer of Pittsburgh Three Rivers Marathon, Inc. “This race provides another opportunity to introduce Pittsburgh to the running community. With the top talent coming to the City of Champions, spectators should expect to see exciting, head-to-head competition on Sunday.”

The American men will face a tough competitor in Kenyan Julius Kogo, who recently won the Crim 10 Miler and set a personal record with a time of 45:55. In addition, Kenyan Reuben Limaa and Scottish runner Andrew Lemoncello should also be in the mix for top positions. Limaa, who is debuting at the 10-mile distance, set an impressive half-marathon personal record earlier this year, clocking 1:00:53, while Lemoncello holds a 10-mile PR of 47:08 that he set in 2012.

In the women’s field, Askale Merachi of Ethiopia is aiming for her second 10-mile road race crown this year after winning the Broad Street Run in Philadelphia with a time of 53:46. Also watch out for Poland’s Karolina Jarzyńska, who placed 36th in the marathon at the 2012 London Olympics in 2:30:57, Kenyan Ogla Kimaiyo, who holds a 10-mile PR of 53:46 and Ethiopian Genet Getaneh who ran a 2:25:38 marathon PR in 2012.

Top American women runners include Addie Bracy, who has a 10-mile personal record of 55:42, and Lindsey Scherf with a half-marathon PR of 1:11:45.
