SPS Road Race Continues Spring Tradition in Scituate
Posted Thursday, 29 March, 2012
SCITUATE, MASSACHUSETTS - The 11th annual SPS Road Race (formerly the Shawn D. Patterson Memorial Road Race) is a 10k run, 5k run/walk, and kids fun run to be held in Scituate, MA on April 29, 2012. For a decade the Patterson family held this event as a tribute to Shawn, who was tragically killed at the age of 19 in an automobile accident. Last year the Patterson family organized their final race and handed the reigns to the PTOs of the Scituate Public Schools. A portion of proceeds from the race will be contributed toward the Shawn D. Patterson Memorial & Scholarship Fund; the remainder of the proceeds will be divided among the Scituate Public Schools. Going forward the SPS Road Race will build upon the strong tradition of community support and educational fundraising that has honored Shawn Patterson since 2001!
The course is considered one of the most beautiful and popular 5K/ 10K courses in New England. Beginning at the Gates Intermediate School, the course heads through Scituate Harbor, around Lighthouse Point and then back to the Town Common. The 5K will follow a similar route but cut across Hazel Avenue and Beaver Dam to the finish line. All abilities of runners and walkers are welcome.
Registration is available now online at www.spsroadrace.com. This is a great time to enjoy the beautiful area and help raise funds for the Scituate Public Schools and the Shawn Patterson Memorial Fund. Scituate Public School students and families are encouraged to register and show their school spirit by wearing school colors (blue and white) on race day! Every Fun Run participant will receive a medal.
