Race2Rebuild Launches Team of Athletes Dedicated to Rebuilding Homes
New Endurance Team Dedicated to Funding Disaster Relief Projects through National Nonprofit Rebuilding Together Focuses Inaugural Year on Rebuilding Homes Destroyed by Hurricane Sandy

NEW YORK, April 25, 2013 – Race2Rebuild, the official charity racing team for Rebuilding Together, has launched its first team, providing athletes with the opportunity to raise money to rebuild homes destroyed by Hurricane Sandy, meet the affected families and participate in the actual rebuilding, thereby creating a tangible experience that is distinct in the field of charity racing.
The inaugural Race2Rebuild teams will race the Aquaphor New York City Triathlon on July 14, 2013 or the New York Road Runners (NYRR) Staten Island Half Marathon on October 13, 2013. Athletes who join the team will raise funds dedicated to rebuilding two homes for two local families. To support their racing goals, athletes will receive a variety of benefits including a complimentary training plan from Race2Rebuild Head Coach Jonathan Cane of City Coach Multisport delivered via TrainingPeaks. Participants will also receive custom apparel, personal one-on-one support from a Race2Rebuild Race Captain, cutting-edge fundraising tools and special promotions from program partners.
“Race2Rebuild is made of athletes and volunteers resolved to rebuild communities, homes and lives through racing,” said founder, Sarah Hartmann. “Their tireless effort allows Race2Rebuild to maximize the funds raised for each Rebuilding Together sponsored family and shows the depth of commitment our supporters have to Sandy relief. This is a breath of fresh air for athletes to be able to make a difference in their own backyard.”
Athletes and volunteers interested in joining Race2Rebuild are encouraged to go to their website, Race2Rebuild.org, to join the Aquaphor NYC Tri team and to find more information on fundraising goals. In the first season, athletes have two opportunities to Race2Rebuild two homes for two families. The two families will be there at the finish line and later the athletes will have the opportunity to volunteer with Rebuilding Together to rebuild their homes. Next year, Race2Rebuild will expand to at least four major races around the country.
