Patrick Moulton and Serkalem Abrha win 15th Running of ING Hartford Marathon

HARTFORD, OCTOBER 11, 2008 – The ING Hartford Marathon stepped off its 15 annual event with more than 10,000 participants in the marathon, half-marathon and 5K races. New title sponsor ING, an aggressive greening initiative and a spotlight on regional talent through a "New England's Finest" Elite Program were race day highlights.
Patrick Moulton of Providence, RI, won the ING Hartford Marathon with a time of 2:21:49. Moulton was recognized as one of New England's Finest and invited to participate in the Marathon's elite program. In the women's race, Serkalem Abrha of Ethiopia took first place with a time of 2:38:37. Two runners shared the second place finish for the women's marathon.

- 2:32:24 Michael Hall, 27, of New Milford, CT
- 2:33:19 Glen Guillemette, 48, of Narragansett, RI
- 2:35:03 Dave Vona, 26, of Valatie, NY
Top five women's marathon winners are:
- 2:38:37 Serkalem Abrha, 21, of Ethiopia
- 2:47:03 Sheri Piers, 37, of Falmouth, ME
- 2:47:03 Shannon McHale, 37, of Simsbury, CT
- 2:48:16 Diona Fulton, 28, of Somerville, MA
- 2:52:53 Mary-Lynn Currier, 44, of Canton, CT
With a photo finish in the 13.1 mile men's half marathon, Derese Deniboba of Bronx, NY, took first place with a time of 1:04:20. With a time of 1:04:21, Tesfaye Girma of New York, NY, took second place and Elijah Kitur of High Falls, NY, took third place with a time of 1:04:21.
In the women's half marathon, Alembehay Misganaw of New York, NY, won with a time of 1:17:31. In second place, Heidi Westerling of Acworth, NH, came in with a time of 1:18:25. With a time of 1:21:00, Caroline Bjune of Andover, MA, came in third.
In the 5K men's race, Southbury, CT, runner John Critelli won with a time of 15:33. Coming in second with a time of 15:43 was Job Christiansen of New Ipswich, NH. With a time of 15:46, Michael Shail of Watertown, CT, came in third.
In another photo finish, the winner of the women's 5K was 15-year-old Jacy Christiansen of New Ipswich, NH, with a time of 18:19. Following immediately was Elizabeth Crowley from West Simsbury, CT, with a time of 18:19. With a time of 19:19 to win third place was Adelle Zocher of Guilford, CT.
