NEW YORK - (January 24, 2007) - Defending champion Thomas Dold of Germany and four-time winner Cindy Moll-Harris of Indianapolis top the men's and women's fields for the 30th annual NYRR Empire State Building Run-Up on Tuesday, February 6, it was announced by New York Road Runners. A field of more than 200 competitors from 12 countries and 13 states will race up 86 flights - 1,576 steps - to the outdoor Observation Deck of the famed skyscraper and New York's tallest building.
Dold, 22, placed second in a near-photo finish in 2005, then came back to win in 2006 with a time of 10 minutes, 19 seconds. Moll-Harris, who won the event in 1998, 2000, 2001 and 2003, is bidding to equal the event record of five titles shared now by Paul Crake of Australia and Al Waquie of the United States. Moll-Harris, 38, was third last year and the runner-up in 2005. Last year's women's champion, Andrea Mayr of Austria, who set a course record of 11 minutes, 23 seconds, is not returning.
"Cindy and Thomas have been on top of the world before, and we will see if they can conquer the building and the field again," said Mary Wittenberg, president and CEO of New York Road Runners.
