The Hartford Marathon Foundation is pleased to host the second annual Legends 4-Mile race on Sunday, April 6, in Middletown. Running in conjunction with the new Harvard Pilgrim Middletown Half Marathon, the Legends 4-Mile will feature locally-connected running super stars Bill Rodgers and Amby Burfoot as well as Jeff Galloway, who’s making his Legends 4-Mile debut. The three ran together along the roads of Middletown while training and competing for Wesleyan University.

Jeff Galloway competed in the 10,000 meter event at the 1972 Olympics. A runner for more than 50 years, Jeff is author of over 20 running books including the best-selling training book, Galloway’s Book on Running. He’s the founder of the Run-Walk-Run method, teaching runners and walkers how to achieve their running goals. Jeff is a monthly columnist for Runner’s World and participates in motivational and training seminars worldwide.

Bill Rodgers is a former American record holder in the marathon best known for his multiple victories in the Boston Marathon and the New York City Marathon in the late 1970s. Rodgers was a member of the 1976 United States Olympic Team and ran the marathon for the U.S.A. in Montreal. A Hartford native, Rodgers currently operates a running center in Boston and has written six books on the sport.

Amby Burfoot won the 1968 Boston Marathon during his senior year at Wesleyan University, where he was teammates with Rodgers. After retiring from competition, he became a running journalist and served as the editor of Runner’s World magazine. He has published multiple books on running and continues to contribute to Runner’s World from his recently relocated home base back in Connecticut.

“We are honored to bring these running legends together again to inspire and motivate our running community,” said Beth Shluger, executive director of the Hartford Marathon Foundation. “Wesleyan University, where these legends have their roots, and the Middletown community have welcomed the Harvard Pilgrim Middletown Half and Legends 4-Mile event with open arms. We’re thrilled to have their support and show off their beautiful streets and rolling hills.”
