October 2013, Glastonbury, CT – The Hartford Marathon Foundation is celebrating the milestone 20th running of the ING Hartford Marathon on Saturday, October 12, 2013. 18,000 participants are expected to participate in related events, which include the ING Hartford Marathon, Half Marathon, 5K, Team Relay, Kids K and the ING Run For Something Better. Downtown Hartford’s Bushnell Park will buzz with activity as thousands of volunteers, race partners and spectators celebrate the “Come Together” theme and take part in race festivities, including the post-race Finish Line Expo and Kids Fit Zone.

To celebrate the 20th running, the Foundation is providing many new or enhanced services to participants, including a new live-stream race broadcast direct from Bushnell Park so family and friends can follow the action from anywhere. An unprecedented offering for races of similar size, “Marathon Live” coverage will begin at 7:30 am on race morning at and will be available via mobile device or computer. In addition to providing start line, finish line and course coverage, Marathon Live will also feature runner profiles, interviews with race winners, officials and partners as well as course tours and history of the event.

Participants in the Marathon and Half Marathon will also be able to offer friends and family live updates on their race progress through the new “RaceMyRace” live tracking application. Athletes can sign up for free online and then post their provided auto-loading link to social networking sites or share via email. The live 3D runner tracking allows family and friends to follow along on the course.

Both the Marathon and Half Marathon course routes will start together in front of the State Capitol and split about a mile and a half into the course. The 5K will start at the corner of Buckingham and Washington Streets and will converge at the same finish line as the Marathon and Half Marathon under the iconic Soldiers & Sailors Memorial Arch in Bushnell Park. New this year, the Kids K will move to Elm Street to accommodate a larger field of participants and a Kids Fit Zone with interactive fitness activities.

Each year, the Hartford Marathon Foundation recognizes inspiring athletes who are participating on race day. This year, nine incredible athletes have been selected to the Aiello Elite Inspiration Team. Each athlete has either overcome personal obstacles and hurdles, been a positive force in the community and/or has truly inspired others around them. All Aiello Elite Inspiration Team Members will be treated as VIP on race day and will receive Elite level benefits. These athletes join thousands of participants who are running to achieve personal goals, support or raise funds for a cause or come together in celebration of their passion.

Participants are encouraged to visit the Healthy Lifestyles Expo at the XL Center in Hartford on Thursday, October 10, or Friday, October 11, from 11:00 am to 7:00 pm on both days to shop, learn and explore over 60 booths with the latest information on running technology, sports apparel, training tips and lots of free samples. There will be no race day packet pick up or registration. Packets must be picked up at the Healthy Lifestyles Expo.
