Defending Champion Stanley Biwott Returns to New Balance Falmouth Road Race
Chris Solinsky and Micah Kogo headline men's field. First-time Ever for Women’s Elite Start.

Falmouth, MA, July 29, 2013– On Sunday, August 11, 2013, runners from around the world will gather to participate in the 41st New Balance Falmouth Road Race at the “Tommy Leonard Start Line” in front of The Captain Kidd in Woods Hole, MA. This year for the first-time ever, there will be an elite women’s start at 9:50 am followed by the elite men and open field at 10:00 am. The wheelchair division starts at 9:40 am.
2012 champion Stanley Biwott is back to defend his title. A red hot Lineth Chepkurui, who placed first at the Utica Boilermaker in July, returns to compete against Stephanie Rothstein Bruce and past Falmouth champion, Wude Ayalew. Making their Falmouth debut in the women’s field are Julia Lucas, who did not finish due to injury in 2012, Gemma Steel, Katie Matthews and Delilah DiCrescenzo. Wheelchair course record holder and defending champion, Krige Schabort returns to Falmouth to race for his fifth title and six-time champion Jessica Galli returns to compete against defending wheelchair champion Jill Moore.
Chris Solinsky, 28, from USA, returns to Falmouth, only 1 of 2 Americans to run under 27:00 for 10,000 meters and under 13:00 for 5000. Other standouts in the men’s field include Micah Kogo, 27, from Kenya, the 2007 Falmouth champion and 2011 runner-up who placed second at the 2013 Boston Marathon with a time of 2:10.27. Another contender is Luke Puskedra, 23, Beaverton, OR, top American male last year and 11th overall, who placed 13th at the 2013 Peachtree Road Race with a time of 29:03. German Fernandez from Portland, OR, 22, makes his Falmouth debut.
For the first-time ever, the New Balance Falmouth Road Race will have an elite women’s start on Sunday to recognize and celebrate the amazing women athletes who travel from around the world to run the race. This year’s field is stacked with competition and is sure to be a nail-biter to the finish.
With wins this year at the Utica Boilermaker 15K and July’s Peachtree Road Race, Lineth Chepkurui, 25, of Kenya, is the one to beat after finishing fifth in Falmouth last year. Nipping at her heels will be 2012 top American Stephanie Rothstein Bruce, 29, Flagstaff, AZ, who placed sixth overall, first American, at the Utica Boilermaker in 51:26. Past Falmouth champion Wude Ayalew, 26, of Ethiopia, is always one to watch. Renee Metivier Baillie, 31, Bend, OR, returns to Falmouth as does fellow American Neely Spence, 23, Lake Orion, MI, who placed first at Reedy River Run 10K with a 33:04. Making their Falmouth debut with impressive times under their belts are Katie Matthews, 22, Rocky Hill, CT, Gemma Steel, 27, Great Britain, and Julia Lucas, 29, Eugene, OR, after her injury last year.
Defending champion, course record holder and 2012 Paralympian, Krige Schabort, 48, who smoked the field in 2012 with a 23:53, leads the men’s wheelchair field. Challengers include eight-time champion Craig Blanchette, 44, who was second in 2012 and four-time champion Tony Nogueira, 44, who finished fifth last year. Two-time champion, Patrick Doak, 44, is also back and ready to race. Making his Falmouth debut is Hermin Garic, who had an impressive finish at the Utica Boilermaker 15K.
Six-time wheelchair winner Jessica Galli returns to Falmouth this year to take on defending champion Jill Moore, 20, from the University of Illinois, who finished last year with a time of 39:09. Christina Kouros, 18, from Maine also returns to Falmouth along with competitors Jacqui Kapinowski and Chelsea Crytzer.
The historic champions who will return to Falmouth include: Bill Rodgers (1974, 1977, 1978), Frank Shorter (1975, 1976), and Joan Samuelson (1976, 1978, 1981, 1982, 1983, 1985).
