Long Island, NY September 10, 2007 - Thousands of runners will descend from the internet on Sunday, November 11, 2007 to help benefit their favorite charities. The Internet-based event, World Run Day, provides a 24 hour window for well-intended runners to run their favorite course and donate to a local charity. Individuals and groups can register at runday.com.

The “big-hearted” running community consistently displays its generosity. According to USA Track & Field (USATF), road runners raised approximately $656 million for charitable causes in the USA alone in 2005. World Run Day participants, in their “celebration” of running, have backed nearly 1000 separate charities since 1999.

“We need an international day of running, and we need an international day of charity,” exclaims World Run Day founder Bill McDermott of Long Beach, New York . “Running is a fantastic activity with countless benefits and its day is long overdue,” he says.

Heeding the message, over 900 runners are already pre-registered in 50 different states. When registering, they provide inspirational dedications, “shout-outs,” and quotes that are posted onto the event site.

Of regional note, Long Islanders and New York City residents awoke to the “mass exposure” of World Run Day as Newsday (circ approx 400,000) today featured the event in its Part II section. The event continues to grow each day, advancing step by step like a patient marathoner.
