Boys & Girls Club of Assabet Valley to honor Team Hoyt with Youth Service Award

The Boys & Girls Club of Assabet Valley in Maynard is hosting its 7th Annual “Service to Youth Awards” reception on Thursday, April 3, 2008 from 6:00 – 8:30 pm at Wedgewood Pines Country Club in Stow, MA. Join us for an evening of dinner, celebration, and fun as we honor Team Hoyt, the father-son marathon team, with our Youth Service Award, just in time for the Boston Marathon!
We are also pleased to honor The 99 Restaurant with our Corporate Award for their outstanding support of youth, and most importantly, we will honor our Youth of the Year, Rich O’Neil. Representative Patricia Walrath and Senator Pamela Resor will also receive the Lifetime Achievement Award. Dinner and cocktails will be served at 6:30 pm, followed by the awards presentation, raffle and auction prizes, and an opportunity to meet our guests!

The Boys & Girls Club of Assabet Valley in Maynard now serves over 1,000 youth per year from Maynard, Stow, Concord, Acton, Bolton and Sudbury. Rick Hoyt uses a wheelchair. That has not stopped him from living a very full and amazing life. He has competed in the Boston Marathon 25 times and in Ironman Triathlons eight times. He and his dad, Dick, have formed “Team Hoyt” and they compete around the world doing marathons and triathlons. The Hoyts have competed in over 956 athletic events in the last 27 years. Dick, 67, is a retired Lt. Colonel, having served in the military for 37 years. Rick, 46, is a graduate of Boston University with a degree in Special Education. They have appeared on HBO’s “Real Sports with Bryant Gumbel,” where their segment recently won a Sports Emmy Award for Best Long Feature. They also travel the world speaking out about people with disabilities and promoting the Team Hoyt motto, “Yes You Can.” Hear a truly inspirational story that is positive and uplifting.
