Adidas Boston Indoor Games Set for Feb. 1

BOSTON - In the kickoff to a tantalizing winter of track action in Boston, Global Athletics & Marketing, Inc. today announces the return of the adidas Boston Indoor Games to the Reggie Lewis Track & Athletic Center at Roxbury Community College in Boston. The eighth-annual meet will be held Saturday, Feb.1, 2003.

The first stop on USA Track & Field's Golden Spike Tour, the adidas Boston Indoor Games will again host top track & field athletes from all corners of the globe. It will be broadcast live on ESPN 2.

"Since we began in 1996, the meet has come to be recognized for fast times and record breaking performances." said Mark Wetmore, meet director. "In 2003, we expect to see more marks fall. But the most important thing is to have an exciting competition, and that we can guarantee."

In the meet's seven-year history, two world records, six American records and six other national marks have been set. Last year, the Games sparked a breakthrough year for David Krummenacker, who set a new US mark for 1000 meters here on his way to one of the best seasons ever for a US middle-distance runner. Before it was over, Krummenacker left World Championship and Olympic medalists in his wake as he became the fastest American in history outdoors at the 800-1500 meter combo (1:43.92 and 3:31.93). He is expected here again in 2003.

Just four weeks after the Golden Spike Tour begins with the adidas Boston Indoor Games, it will return to the Reggie Lewis Center for the grand finale: the 2003 USA Indoor Track & Field Championships on March 1 and 2.
