The Moose Are On The Loose!
A new racing team is on the loose in New England - the Moose Milers & Marathoners, with 52 charter members from New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Vermont, and Rhode Island, was formed on August 15, 2002 under the leadership of Racing Team Manager Michael Amarello and Team Captains Jason Bigonia, Corey Coll, and Peter Lopriore.

A new racing team is on the loose in New England - the Moose Milers & Marathoners, with 52 charter members from New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Vermont, and Rhode Island, was formed on August 15, 2002 under the leadership of Racing Team Manager Michael Amarello and Team Captains Jason Bigonia, Corey Coll, and Peter Lopriore.
The Moose debuted on the racing scene at the Acushnet, Massachusetts 4 Miler held yesterday by winning the women's division over the Greater Boston Track Club, and taking 2nd to GBTC in the men's division. JoAnn Mathews of North Dartmouth, MA and Jason Eddy of Rochester, MA led the way for the Moose winning the women's and men's races respectively.
The Moose Milers & Marathoners race schedule will include the USATF NE Gran Prix; the USATF NE Cross Country Championships; the USATF NE Indoor and Outdoor Track Championships; as well as other top team races and relays around New England.

Racing Team Manager Michael Amarello brings 3½ years experience working with the Gate City Striders' racing team, to the Moose Milers & Marathoners. Under Amarello's watch, the Gate City Striders won the NH RRCA Gran Prix 3 years in a row, won the Mill Cities Relay in 2000, and fielded several top ten teams in the Boston Marathon in 2000, 2001, and 2002.
Top Moose include Moatacim Hamcha of New Bedford, MA who recently won 3 races in 1 day - 2 5Ks in 15:31 and 15:48, and a 10K in 34:24; BJ Bottomley of Bedford, NH runnerup in the Hyannis Marathon in 2001; Casey Carroll of Dover, NH winner of the Super Bowl 5K and An Ras Mor 4 Milers earlier this year; Zach Emerson of Hillsboro, NH the favorite to win the 2002 New Hampshire High School Cross Country Championship; and Madalena Boudreau of Fall River, MA and Joann Mathews of North Dartmouth, MA, who have won more than a dozen races in Southeastern Massachusetts and Rhode Island already in 2002.
Membership is open to runners who meet specific performance standards based on a 6:00 per mile pace for a 10K for men 19-35 and a 7:00 per mile pace for a 10K for women 19-35. Runners younger than 19 and older than 35 can qualify with a WAVA-adjusted time that meets the qualifying time.
