The 44th annual Yankee Homecoming Road Races will take place on July 29, 2003 in historic Newburyport, Massachusetts. The mostly flat ten mile course is run through one of the most picturesque cities in New England. Both courses (5K & 10M) wind their way through the historic downtown area and along the harbor edge. The ten mile course goes through Maudslay State Park for a spectacular sunset. The local residents pride themselves in uplifting runners with their spirit as well as official and impromptu water stops all along the course. This is a traditional and premier 10 mile event, one of the few that is this well established and on a summer Tuesday evening!
A few years back a 5K distance was added to encourage families, young people and 'new' runners into the sport. This distance is very do-able and it has grown very fast, both in numbers and times. The course follows the first 2.6 miles of the 10-mile route and then cuts off to have the same finish line as the 10 miler. This allows the 5K runners to experience the 'high' of a huge combined field at the start and they are treated to the experience of seeing their friends come in at the 10 Mile race whilst they are enjoying their own race refreshments at the finish.
The 10-mile and 5K races will start a few minutes apart at 6:30 PM . There is a total of $5,000 in 10 mile prize money, medals and certificates as well as a great tee shirt for the first 2400 runners. A variety of food and cold drinks are available to all runners.
You may enter on www.yankeerace.com or on the day of the race at the Nock Middle School in Newburyport. The chip timing system will be used this year. And results will be posted on www.coolrunning.com.
