There has always been the constant of Sport that has brought countries and their people together and in 2003, it continues as the 1st annual Ras na hEireann U.S.A. 3.5 Mile Road Race will take place in Somerville, Massachusetts at the same time that the 32nd running of Ras na hEireann International Cross Country will be taking place in Dunleer, County Louth, Ireland.

The "Ras" as it is called internationally will have it's sister race Ras na hEireann U.S.A. (The Race of Ireland U.S.A.) take place on March 16, 2003 in Davis Square, Somerville, Massachusetts. The St. Patrick's Day running & walking event will travel through many Somerville neighborhoods and squares including the Minuteman bike path and it will end behind the Brooks Pharmacy.

There will be an international style post race party at a number of Davis Square eateries, pubs and cafes including The Burren, Redbones and The Sligo with all locations offering complimentary refreshments, Irish food, and music.

In addition to having runners and walkers from Ireland and all over New England join in the event, the Mayor of Somerville and County Galway native Dorothy Kelly Gay will be the Honorary Chairwoman and Cambridge Comedian Jimmy Tingle will be the Master of Ceremony.

The Ras na hEireann U.S.A. will benefit the Somerville Track PAC and Somerville Auxiliary Police Department. Please contact the Somerville Striders Athletic Club at (617) 625-2140 or BAEvents@aol.com. There is on-line registration at www.clydesdale.org/BAEvents/schedule
