World champion Jaouad Gharib of Morocco will run in the Fukuoka International Marathon in Japan next month, the Japan Association of Athletics Federations said Thursday.
Also featuring in the Dec. 3 event is Haile Gebrselassie of Ethiopia, who won the Berlin marathon in September in 2 hours, 5 minutes and 56 seconds, the fastest time in the world this year.
According to Kyodo News, top Japanese runner Atsushi Fujita, who holds the Fukuoka record of 2:6:51, and world bronze medalist Tsuyoshi Ogata are also among the invitees.
The Fukuoka race doubles as a qualifier for Japanese athletes for next summer's world championships in Osaka.
