BRUSSELS -- A nagging groin injury that has sidelined world 100 meter record holder Asafa Powell for more than a month is forcing the Jamaican to end his season, his manager confirmed today.

"It's just too much of a risk," his manager Paul Doyle said. "We were hoping to be ready for [The World Athletics Final in] Monaco, but it's too risky."

Doyle confirmed comments made by Wilfried Meert, the meet director for tomorrow evening's Van Damme Memorial Golden League competition, at an afternoon press conference today.

Powell has remained in Europe throughout the past month, receiving daily treatment in Munich. A recent exam confirmed that his injury is just 50 percent healed.

The 22-year-old Jamaican, who lowered the world record to 9.77 in Athens on June 14, hasn't competed since failing to finish the 100 meters at the Norwich Union London Grand Prix on July 22. His last race was at the Jamaican national championships on June 25.
