Grand Pacifico Marathon to Air on FOX Sports Net

CHICAGO - January 2007 - While most Americans were watching football or doing their holiday shopping, more than 6,000 runners were hitting the sunny roads of Mazatlan, Mexico on December 3 for the 2006 Grand Pacifico Marathon. Dubbed a major international destination race, the Grand Pacifico Marathon is also the feature of a 30-minute television special that will air nationally on FOX Sports Net on January 29, 2007 at 4:00pm EST.
The Grand Pacifico Marathon is rated one of the top 15 marathons in the world for its ideal landscape, warm weather and international presence. Mazatlan is not only a major Mexican port for tourists, but has attracted athletes from across the world to take part in this ultimate destination marathon. The 8th annual Grand Pacifico Marathon consisted of a weekend of races that included a 5K, 10K, half marathon and marathon---all with a backdrop of breathtaking ocean views and sunshine terrain. George Okworo of Kenya, was the top finisher in the men's division with a time of 2:17:27. Maria Guadalupe Santana of Mexico won the women's race in a time of 2:43:52.
The course stretched down Mexico's longest coastal boulevard highlighting the ocean beauty that has distinguished Mazatlan as "The Pacific Pearl." The 2006 Grand Pacifico Marathon showcased the world's top athletes as competitors flocked to Mexico from countries across the world, including the United States. The weekend celebration included parades, music concerts and children's activities.
The Grand Pacifico Marathon boasts an impressive prize vault offering luxury cars for the men's and women's marathon winner and a bonus pool of $1 million for breaking the world record and $100,000 for the Mexican record.
