RIO DE JANEIRO, Brazil (AP) -- Brazilians Franck Caldeira and Marizete de Paula Rezende won the Rio de Janeiro International Half Marathon on Sunday, a 13.1-mile race along the city's famous beaches.
This was the first time Brazilians won the men's and women's divisions in Rio, the host of the 2007 Pan American Games.
Caldeira finished in 1 hour, 3 minutes, 25 seconds and was followed by Joao de Lima.
Rezende was timed in 1:14:24, overcoming Lucelia Peres in the final 300 yards. Rezende won the 2003 race but lost the title after failing a doping test.
"This is the most exciting victory of my career," said Rezende, who won the St. Silvester race in 2002 and the Sao Paulo Marathon in 2001.
