INDIANAPOLIS - Brad Walker has been named USA Track & Field's Athlete of the Week after setting the American Record in the pole vault Sunday at the Nike Prefontaine Classic in Eugene, Ore.

The reigning World Outdoor Champion, Walker Soared into the lead of the Visa Championship Series with his American Record Clearance of 6.04 meters/ 19 Feet 9.75 9inches in the men's pole vault. The world-leading clearance broke Jeff Hartwig's American record set in 2000 of 6.03m/19-9.25 and also bested living legend Sergey Bubka's meet record of 5.95m/19-6.25. It was the highest clearance in the world since 2001.

Now in its seventh year, USATF's Athlete of the Week program is designed to recognize outstanding performers at all levels of the sport. USATF names a new honoree each week and features the athlete on the USATF website. Selections are based on top performances and results from the previous week.
