U.S. Olympians to Headline Guidant Heart of Summer 10K
Dedicated to Raising Awareness of Women's Cardiovascular Health

ST. PAUL, Minn. - (June 29, 2005) - Guidant Corporation and Runner's Soul Running Club are proud to present the 2nd annual Guidant Heart of Summer 5K and 10K which raises awareness of women's cardiovascular health. The events will take place at Lake Nokomis in Minneapolis on Saturday, August 20, 2005. The women's 10K field will include several top American women including four-time Olympian Colleen De Reuck, Minnesota native and 2004 Olympian Carrie Tollefson, two-time Olympians Jen Rhines and Elva Dryer and the 2003 Twin Cities Marathon Champion Blake Russell. The 10K race also serves as the men's and women's Road Runners Club of America (RRCA) Minnesota State 10K Championship.
One hundred percent of the net proceeds from the Guidant Heart of Summer will stay in the local community to support the following women's heart health initiatives: Health East, Mayo Clinic Women's Heart Clinic, Minneapolis Heart Institute Foundation, Park Nicollet Heart Center and WomenHeart.
The Guidant Heart of Summer 5K and 10K is open to men and women for of all ages and abilities. A prize purse over $30,000 will be awarded in seven categories with a majority of the prize money reserved for the women's 10K race.
The Guidant Heart Health Expo will precede the race on August 19, 2005 at the Embassy Suites Hotel Minneapolis-Airport from 3:00pm to 8:00pm. The Guidant Heart Health Expo is free to the general public and includes race registration, packet and timing chip pick-up, health screens and guest speakers such as women's running pioneer Kathrine Switzer.
Women's Only Training Programs
Beginning in June, Health East, Mayo Clinic Women's Heart Clinic, Minneapolis Heart Institute Foundation and Park Nicollet Heart Center will hold 10-week training programs for women of all levels and ability. These clinics will take place in various locations throughout the Twin Cities and surrounding area.
