Six Americans among IAAF World Athlete of the Year nominees

A total of six reigning American Olympic gold medalists were among the 10 men and 10 women named as nominees for the 2012 IAAF World Athlete of the Year Award the organization announced Tuesday.
London male gold medalists Ashton Eaton (decathlon), Aries Merritt (110m hurdles) and Christian Taylor (triple jump) joined female nominees Allyson Felix (200m, 4x100m, 4x400m), Brittney Reese (long jump) and Sanya Richards-Ross (400m, 4x400m) to give the United States the most nominees of any country.
Voting will be conducted through the World Athletics Family until October 28 where three male and three female finalists will be named and the final winners crowned at the 2012 Centenary Celebrations November 24 in Barcelona, Spain.
Each American athlete is also a nominee for the USA Track & Field Jesse Owens Award, which fans can still vote on through Friday by clicking here.
