Rupp named Athlete of the Week

INDIANAPOLIS - Galen Rupp has been named USA Track & Field's Athlete of the Week after winning the men's 8 km race Saturday at the 2006 Pac-10 Conference Cross Country Championships in Stanford, Calif.
The American Junior record-holder over 5,000 and 10,000 meters, Rupp won the 8 km race crossing the line in 23 minutes 03.12 seconds to bring runner-up Arizona senior Robert Cheseret's (23:10.96) two-year winning streak to an end. A sophomore at the University of Oregon, Rupp became just the 10th individual Pac-10 cross country champion in school history.
Now in its sixth year, USATF's Athlete of the Week program is designed to recognize outstanding performers at all levels of the sport. USATF names a new honoree each week and features the athlete on the USATF website. Selections are based on top performances and results from the previous week.
