INDIANAPOLIS - Bonnie Richardson has been named USA Track & Field's Athlete of the Week after winning the Texas High School team title by herself Saturday at the 2008 Texas 1A Track and Field Championships in Austin, Texas.

A junior at Rochelle High School, Richardson started her quest on Friday winning the high jump (1.65 meters/5 feet 5 inches), placing second in the long jump (5.66m/18-7) and taking third in the discus (36.88m/121-0). Finishing up on Saturday, she won the 200 meters in 25.03 seconds and was the runner-up in the 100m (12.19). Richardson was the only Rochelle athlete to qualify for the state meet. She earned a total of 42 team points to edge team runner-up Chilton (36).

Elsewhere, Arizona State's Jacquelyn Johnson won the women's heptathlon at the Pac-10 track and field championships with a world-leading score of 6,307 points and Clemson's Travis Padgett joined the sub-10 club, winning the men's 100m in U.S.-leading 9.92 at the Clemson Orange and Purple Classic.

Now in its seventh year, USATF's Athlete of the Week program is designed to recognize outstanding performers at all levels of the sport. USATF names a new honoree each week and features the athlete on the USATF website. Selections are based on top performances and results from the previous week.
