INDIANAPOLIS - Sanya Richards has been named USA Track & Field's Athlete of the Week after winning the women's 400 meters Sunday at the ISATF meet in Berlin, her sixth Golden League win of the year.
The 2005 World Outdoor silver medalist, Richards defeated the women's field in the 400 meters by more than a second with her winning time of 49.81 seconds. In finishing the six-event Golden League series undefeated, Richards won a $249,999 share of the Golden League jackpot.
Another notable performance was turned in by reigning Olympic and World Outdoor champion Jeremy Wariner, who won the men's 400 meters in 44.26 seconds for his sixth Golden League win of the year and a $249,999 share of the Golden League jackpot.
Now in its sixth year, USATF's Athlete of the Week program is designed to recognize outstanding performers at all levels of the sport. USATF names a new honoree each week and features the athlete on the USATF website. Selections are based on top performances and results from the previous week.
