DENVER, CO (August 19, 2005) – Run Denver, LLC, the Official Management Company of the new Denver MarathonTM, has named BAA Boston Marathon Race Director Dave McGillivray as its Race Director. McGillivray, world renowned for directing sporting events from Maine to Florida is known for his operational expertise, attention to detail and creativity. McGillivray has been directing the prestigious Boston Marathon for the past 18 years. He will be leading an all-star management team to build an outstanding race in Denver that establishes a legacy of economic and social vitality for the metro Denver area.

“Even in these early stages, I am overwhelmed by the collaborative effort of the City and its various agencies. It’s a personal thrill for me to direct a marathon in Colorado, a state with incredible scenery that provided me with wonderful memories as I ran through it as part of my solo cross country run in 1978, and then again in 2004 as part of a relay team,” said McGillivray. “We plan to create a spectacular race for the runners and their families…one that will become an annual tradition.”

The inaugural race is scheduled for October 15th, 2006 and will offer runners the opportunity to participate in a Marathon, Half-Marathon, or a 4-person Marathon Relay. The Denver Marathon course will start and finish in the downtown area and run through Denver’s most-scenic parks creating a community-wide festival atmosphere.

“We are very proud and honored to welcome Dave McGillivray to our team to firmly establish a major marathon in Denver”, said Anton Villatoro, President of Run Denver, LLC; former Olympic and Professional Cyclist alongside U.S. Postal Service teammate Lance Armstrong; and a University of Colorado graduate. “Denver has so much to offer,” says Villatoro. “With the management team we currently have in place I believe the City will be the true winner of this race.”
