NORTH FALMOUTH, Ma. – On Saturday, nearly five hundred women runners lined up outside the lobby of the newly renovated Sea Crest Beach Hotel for a 13.1 or 6.2 mile road race. Of the 548 total registrants, nearly 35% were from outside Massachusetts, proving that ZOOMA really does offer a “fit girls’ getaway” opportunity.

Despite the fact that many of ZOOMA’s runners hailed from out of state, local runners made an impressive showing. Liz Lawton from East Falmouth was the overall half marathon winner with a finishing time of 1:27:36. Her mother, Michelle Lawton, claimed the top place in the 10K’s 50-54 age group.

A strong contingency of local runners showed that Falmouth runners are fast. Sue Eliason from East Falmouth claimed the top spot in the 50-54 age bracket (1:49:43) and Janet Vacon, also from East Falmouth, placed third in the 60-64 age group (2:09:16). Several Falmouth residents placed in the 10K’s top three in age group categories including Sarah Griffee (3rd, 30-34); Megan Hanawalt (2nd, 45-49); Michelle Lawton (1st, 50-54) and Cheryl Donahue (2nd, 55-59).

The Muscle Milk Light ZOOMA Women’s Race Series is a national series of women’s half marathon and 5K/10K road races designed to inspire women to live healthy and active lives. With boutique events located at upscale resorts in five destinations around the U.S., ZOOMA creates opportunities for camaraderie and bonding around an exciting fitness achievement. ZOOMA post-race parties, located at the host resorts, include live music, wine, shopping, massage and lots of girls’ weekend energy.

The Cape Cod Child Development Program served as the race’s local Official Charity Partner and sent over 35 volunteers to support the event. Volunteers from the Falmouth High School’s cheerleading squad and field hockey team also participated.

The inaugural ZOOMA Cape Cod race was hosted by the Sea Crest Beach Hotel. After a pre-race fitness expo in the Sea Crest’s newly renovated Nauset Center, participants enjoyed a social “Mock-tail” Hour at Red’s Poolside Bar. On Saturday morning, the half marathon and 10K ran from the Sea Crest Beach Hotel along Quaker Road, Nashawena Rd, Old Dock Rd and Chapoquoit before winding through the pine-tree lined Brick Kiln Rd, Blacksmith Shop Road and Thomas B Landers Road. The race finished at the Sea Crest Beach Hotel, where participants and spectators enjoyed a post-race party in the beachside courtyard and on the beach.
