INDIANAPOLIS - Ryan Hall has been named USA Track & Field's Athlete of the Week after setting an American record in the men's half marathon in winning the 2007 USA Half-Marathon Championships Sunday in Houston, Texas.

Already the American record holder at 20 km, Hall ran 59 minutes 43 seconds in his half-marathon debut to better the previous record of 1 hour 55 seconds set by Mark Cup in 1985. Hall's time makes him the first American ever to run under one hour and the eight fastest man all-time in the half-marathon distance on an unaided certified course.

Now in its sixth year, USATF's Athlete of the Week program is designed to recognize outstanding performers at all levels of the sport. USATF names a new honoree each week and features the athlete on the USATF website. Selections are based on top performances and results from the previous week.

2007 USATF Athlete of the Week Winners: January 2, Thomas Morgan; January 9, Jacquelyn Coward; January 16, Ryan Hall.
