Hall, Kastor Top 2007 Runner Rankings powered by The Active Network and Running USA Top 15 includes wide spectrum of athletes from coast-to-coast
Posted Friday, 11 January, 2008
SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - (January 10, 2008) -
Ryan Hall and Deena Kastor were the top point scorers in the 2007
Runner Rankings powered by The Active Network and Running USA with
3,286 and 3,857 points respectively. The Mammoth Lakes, Calif. residents
ran fast, set 3 U.S. records and won 5 national road titles. Jason
Lehmkuhle and Elva Dryer finished second in the road rankings with
2,287 and 3,000 points each.
Hall, 25, had a memorable year with his U.S.
half-marathon record (59:43) at Houston, his U.S. marathon debut
record (2:08:24) at London and his stunning Olympic Trials victory
(2:09:02), while Kastor, 34, who topped the rankings for the third
straight year, won three USA road crowns (10K, 15K and marathon)
and ran a sub-1:10 half-marathon at the World Championships. The
Team Running USA teammates also produced the highest average points
per race, 657 and 964 respectively.
The top 15 - see the rankings below - featured
a wide spectrum of runners who ranged in age from 25 to 77 years
old and were from California to New York and points in-between.
There were Olympians (Hall, Dryer, Abdi Abdirahman, Brian Sell and
Kate O'Neill), Olympic medalists (Joan Benoit Samuelson, Meb Keflezighi
and Kastor), top masters stalwarts (Dennis Simonaitis, Jim Howe,
Paul Aufdemberge, Lois Gilmore, Nancy Rollins, Imme Dyson, Gloria
Jansen and Barbara Miller) and new faces (Hall, Lehmkuhle, Beth
Moras and Chris Hicks).
Rankings points were based on time, course difficulty (USATF or
IAAF certified course required), gender and age (using the updated
WMA, formerly WAVA, age-graded factors) and special environmental
factors such as high altitude. A maximum of 12 performances (highest
12) per athlete were scored.
