In what will be remembered as one of the truly great moments at the MCG, Kerryn McCann has sprinted the last 300m of the Women’s marathon to hold off Kenyan Hellen Cherono Koskei and defend her Commonwealth Marathon title.
McCann entered the stadium to a massive roar of over 70,000 which carried her through the pain of calf cramps and the continued challenge of the Kenyan.
Lead pack at 18 kms

Samson Ramadhani Nyonyi of Tanzania and silver medallist Fred Mogaka Tumbo of Kenya have broken away by 18 kms
Still together at 40kms and in perfect stride. Samson Ramadhani Nyonyi went on to win in 2.11.29 and Fred Mogaka Tumbo came in second in 2.12.03.
