To support its new cross-promotion with Nike, Apple has added a new section to the iTunes Music Store with several offerings designed to enhance the Nike + iPod experience where users can download content specifically for working out and training.
In May, sportswear manufacturer Nike recently introduced a new line of gear called Nike+. It consisted of a new pair of running shoes that connects wirelessly to an Apple iPod Nano using the Nike+iPod Sport kit. It records time, distance, calories burned and other data, then uploads that to the Nike+ Web site the next time the wearer syncs their iPod.
The new top-level iTunes area, called “Nike Sport Music,” features five Nike+ Workouts (continuous-play music mixes with voice-over coaching instructions) designed for treadmill training, speed training, strength training and endurance training. The area also has Nike video podcasts and Sport iMixes put together by iTunes customers.
Additionally, it features Athlete Inspiration playlists, Sport iMixes, featuring music picks from the likes of Tour de France champion Lance Armstrong, champion marathoner Paula Radcliffe, NBA MVP Steve Nash, and others.
Also, as part of the launch of the Nike content, electronic group The Crystal Method created an exclusive 45-minute sport mix featuring original tracks and new remixes of their old songs.
