AJC Peachtree Road Race to Host 2010 USA Men's 10K Championship
Total 2010 Peachtree prize purse exceeds $110,000

ATLANTA - (February 18, 2010) - The AJC Peachtree Road Race will once again host the USA Men's 10K Championship on Sunday, July 4, 2010. The 2010 AJC Peachtree Road Race will mark the third time in the past four years that the event has hosted of the men's national championship. three-time Olympian Abdi Abdirahman of Tucson, Ariz., and the reigning USA Men's 10K champion, clinched the title for the third year in a row at the 2009 Peachtree. The USA Men's 10K Championship is part of the 2010 USA Running Circuit (USARC), a USA Track & Field road series featuring USA Championships from one mile to the marathon.
"We are proud to once again host the USA Men's 10K Championship at the 2010 AJC Peachtree Road Race," commented Tracey Russell, Executive Director of the Atlanta Track Club. "The USA Running Circuit does an incredible job showcasing and promoting U.S. running talent, and it's great to have the opportunity to host America's best male distance runners at our Fourth of July event."
The USA Men's 10K Championship features a $30,000 prize purse - $10,000 to the national champion - bringing the total Peachtree purse to $111,300. In addition, the first 10 U.S. runners earn points at each USARC event with a final grand prix prize purse of $12,500 for the top three overall male and female point scorers.

This year marks the 41st running of the AJC Peachtree Road Race which takes place every year on the Fourth of July in Atlanta, Georgia. The AJC Peachtree Road Race is the nation's largest road race with nearly 50,000 timed finishers in 2009. Online registration for the AJC Peachtree Road Race opens to the public on Sunday, March 21 at 1:00pm EDT.
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution Peachtree Road Race is a 10K event that takes place every Fourth of July in Atlanta, Georgia. The first Peachtree was held in 1970 and featured 110 runners. The AJC Peachtree Road Race is now the largest running event in the United States with 55,000 entrants.
