BOSTON, MA -- Registration for the Sixth Annual B.A.A. Half Marathon presented by Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and The Jimmy Fund has closed. More than 4,000 runners entered the increasingly popular race in just three weeks with registration having commenced on July 19.
Since the inaugural running of the B.A.A. Half Marathon in 2001, the event has quickly grown in popularity, with the limited field filling faster each year, and the international field growing more and more competitive. The 2005 B.A.A. Half Marathon boasted 4,457 entrants and 3,072 finishers, with Celedonio Rodriguez of the United States (1:04:09) and Nataliya Berkut of Ukraine (1:12:21) winning the men's and women's divisions, respectively.
Previous champions have been Wayne Levy and Sarah Nixon (2001), David Hinga and Sarah Nixon (2002), Laban Kipkemboi and Marie Davenport (2003), and Luke Metto and Lornah Kiplagat (2004). The men's course record of 1:02:57 is held by Metto, while the women's record of 1:10:57 is held by Davenport.
Though B.A.A. Half Marathon registration is closed, a limited number of runners can still enter the race by joining the Dana-Farber Runners team. To register for the race and raise funds for Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, runners can visit http://jimmyfund.kintera.org/half-marathon.
