High Quality Gear on a Budget
I admit it. I’m cheap. It puts me into cardiac arrest to see a pair of shorts with 50 grams of nylon in them for $100! I’ve been known to frequent races based on the ratio of entry fee to technical tee-shirt value. You know I love those free-shoe races. If I can pick up a nylon hat or a good pair of gloves while running the local 10k, I’m in! I’ve been known to hand-sew my ratty tights prior to races and tie-die my racing shirts to hide the stains. That’s why this BR Sportswear sale is such a great opportunity. I could equip my whole club with hats for the price of a pair of shoes. Look at your closet and see what holes you can fill for the next season or so!
One of the things I like about running is that it’s relatively inexpensive. You just strap on your shoes and go. There are no pads, sticks, balls to buy and no fields, rinks, or facilities to rent. You don’t need technical clothing, but even a cheapskate like me appreciates the value of technical clothes. Trust me; the downside in discomfort and painful rashes is an overwhelming motivator to get out of those cotton sweat pants and into some quality performance gear.
The value of technical gear
After years of running my collection is still a mishmash, but it is 100% technical from the socks to the balaclava – and I love it. Yes, I even have technical underwear and I’ll run the next race that has the courage to give out Coolmax briefs!
Technical fabric doesn’t hold the sweat, it wicks it away from your body. This way you won’t get chaffing and chilling on your runs. The technical stuff dries much faster and lasts for a long time. In the summer it keeps you cooler and in the winter it makes a great base layer – keeping you dry and cutting the wind, protecting your sensitive points.
I travel frequently on business and the technical stuff is a big help. It doesn’t take up any room and its light. I can stuff socks, shirt and shorts into one of my shoes. It dries quickly so that I don’t have to pack wet stuff from my morning run or wear wet stuff the next day.
I know it’s hot and steamy today, but winter is right around the corner. At 50% off you save the most on big-ticket items like running suits and pullovers. Think ahead, it will be frosty before you know it and you’ll be wishing you had taken advantage of the savings now, when available.
BR Sportswear is giving away a knit hat with each order, and you can never have enough fuzzy hats when the wind begins to howl in New England.

Now’s the time to equip your team and your kids.
Does your club need racing singlets? Buy a crate of them from BR Sportswear and save your dues for more beer after the next club run. Does your event need promotional, prize or giveaway material? Buy a few boxes and let the savings go to the bottom line. It’s a win-win situation. You can stock up now at an incredible discount and have them silk-screened when you need them. Here’s your chance to be a big hero at the next club meeting when you show how you only spent half the budget.
Since I have been converted to the technical gear bandwagon I have also realized that there is a huge applicability to youth sports of all kinds. I tell my kids (when I’m coaching soccer) to put on a synthetic base layer. This is a great opportunity for you folks with little (or not so little) kids to get them some good performance clothing.
I speak from personal experience. I bought my 12-year old a plain long-sleeve Coolmax shirt and she wears it at every soccer, softball, and field hockey game. She loves it, especially when it is rainy or cold. Take a look at the gaiters and wrist-overs for those cold fall days at the field. At these prices you can equip your whole team.
Holidays are only five months away. You could check off some boxes here and save some dough on the nieces and nephews. Spread the technical love. You can wax rhapsodic about the merits of technical clothing and then segue right into your favorite marathon story over holiday dinner.
The Great Bill Rodgers
I grew up in New England when Bill Rodgers was the face of long distance running. “Boston Billy” seemingly came out of nowhere to win his first Boston Marathon. It pains me today to hear the youngsters say, Bill who? Growing up in the 70’s Bill was one of our big sports heroes. He’s still out running races and promoting the sport. Maybe you saw him at the Expo this year being interviewed as one of the winners of the Boston Marathon.
Before the Kenyans, Boston Billy won 4 New York Marathons, 4 Boston Marathons and one Fukuoka Marathon, as well as numerous other events. In the process he set records at several distances including the American marathon record of 2:09:27 at Boston.
Back then the marathon was a much different event. There were only a couple of marathons across the country. There are now more people showing up at the starting line of a modern marathon than finished any marathon in the USA in the 70’s. There weren’t any real cash prizes. Bill trained and ran before it was a means to make a living, and he was a New England, even national hero.

Bill Rodgers Sportswear offers a complete line of racing apparel, from casual running shorts to hi-tech weatherproof workout suits to our sweat control Polypro® thin and thick underwear for cool fall days to icy cold winter weather.
Ironically enough Bill wore cut-off shorts and a hand lettered t-shirt when he won his first Boston! He probably thought right then of designing some comfortable clothes.
Who is BR Sportswear and why are they going out of business?
BR Sportswear took over the manufacture and licensing of the Bill Rodgers line of clothing in 1986. They primarily focus on outfitting school teams. The owner is getting to a point in life where he wants to move on and is liquidating this business.

BR Sportswear garments use durable fabrics and quality control stitching that is made to stand the test of time. They never cut corners. Their products have faced the rigors of usage on a daily basis from track teams and clubs across the country. All of the products are designed for the rigors of school teams. They are functional, high quality, and built to last.
Bill Rodgers Sportswear has been manufacturing men’s and women’s running apparel since 1986. Like their namesake these products have stood the test of time, and performed as a champion.
