The Second Annual Lime Rock Half Marathon and 5K in Beautiful and Historic Litchfield County, Connecticut
It is part of the New England Half Marathon Tour 2014. The Lime Rock Half Marathon will run on June 8 in historic Lakeville and the hamlet of Lime Rock. Lime Rock Park provides a unique half marathon and 5K finishing on the famous race track. This is Connecticut’s half marathon, starting on the track straight-away and ending in pit row with the checkered flag. The accompanying 5K runs entirely on the track. It’s a beautiful course at one of the east’s most scenic and historic locations.

The Lime Rock Half Marathon begins and ends on a race track, but not any track—the Lime Rock Park race course in beautiful Litchfield County. The Hamlet of Lime Rock is located in Salisbury, the northwestern most town in Connecticut, very close to the New York and Massachusetts borders in a very lovely region of the south Berkshires. The half marathon has an accompanying 5K (as do all the New England Half Marathon events) and all the amenities.

It will be the third of 14 events (most new) that make up the New England Half Marathon Tour 2014. First is the Moose on the Loose Half Marathon in Nashua, New Hampshire on April 13, followed by the Swamp Meadow Covered Bridge Half Marathon in Foster, Rhode Island on May 11. We have more on the entire tour below.

Half marathoners will receive custom tech shirts and 5K runners get unique cotton T-shirts. Overall winners and age group winners will receive pint glasses, and all half marathon finishers will receive an attractive custom medal, a nice touch to remember this unusual event. Please visit the race website for details and registration: http://www.limerockparkhm.com/

The Yankee Timing Company will be using the “B tag” Chronotrack system (timing chip built into the race bib) so you know the results will be both accurate and immediate. A well supported course with 6 aid stations for the half promises fast times and runners will be rewarded with fresh fruit and pastries and much more at the post race celebration. In this event all participants will receive a “Make Your Own” goodie bag, an interesting perk. It is presented by 3C Race Productions of Merrimack, New Hampshire, and 20% of proceeds will go to Strong to Serve, which will provide many of the volunteers.

The big draw here is the unique area and race course, which truly is a park. Litchfield County is famous for its historical, cultural, and recreational resources. This is completely in line with the “Great Races in Great Places” motto of the New England Half Marathon tour.

The Course
This course is moderately challenging; even the race course has up and down rolls. The 5K is simply two loops of the track. This is a road track now used for the American Le Mans Series and Grand Am. “Lime Rock is unique and cannot be compared to any other track, arena or sporting venue.” It is indeed a park in every sense of the word. Details about the historic track, which opened in 1957, can be found here: http://www.limerock.com/ along with directions.

The Half Marathon will start at 9:00 a.m. followed by the 5K at 9:30. The races begin on the main straight away of the track and end at the scoring/timing tower where runners will register their Chronotrack B-tag chip time as well as receive the checkered flag as so many legendary race drivers have done over the years. The half marathon course traverses rural roads along the foothills of Litchfield County with a basic out-and-back course to the southwest. The half marathon runs mostly on White Hollow Road, which is adjacent to the Housatonic State Forest.

It starts with a lap of the 1.5-mile track and ends with a lap as well. The course has a beautiful backdrop with rolling hills and quintessential New England farms and villages, including portions of Lakeville: http://www.limerockparkhm.com/

3C Race Productions
This company produces many races, including the New England Half Marathon Tour 2014 as outlined below. This is a full service and very professional organization that manages and produces events all over New England and sometimes beyond—over 125 events per year, including road races, trail races, triathlons, biathlons and snow shoe competitions. Founded in 2002, this company has helped provide funds and donations for many non-profits totaling about 1.5 million dollars for a variety of charities thus far.

Be a Part of the Lime Rock Experience, a Half Marathon to Remember
Salisbury, Connecticut is a unique place for many reasons, and there will be lots to see with a scenic tour on the way to and from—check out the cool restaurants and unique places for lodging. http://www.limerockparkhm.com/

It is set in the midst of a gorgeous region that includes rolling hills and a portion of the Appalachian Trail. The area hosts the Eastern Ski Jumping Championships every winter, and has more historic structures and locations than we can recount here. In early June Litchfield County is absolutely stunning. Salisbury is the town within Litchfield County, and Lakeville (on Lake Wononskopomuc) is a village within the town of Salisbury. And lastly, Lime Rock is a hamlet within Lakeville.

Lakeville was once called “Furnace Village” because of the very early iron industry which thrived there until World War I. Ethan Allen, usually associated with Vermont, had a thriving iron furnace there before the Revolution. A more recent and current resident is Meryl Streep, the Academy Award-winning actress.

Come and enjoy the fun at a very different and enjoyable event. The awards, the amenities and post race festivities with fruit and pastries will be a lot of fun. For additional information you can contact Michael at 603-429-8879 or by e-mail at michael@3Craceproductions.com.

Registration is very reasonable but don’t delay, you can save money over race day registration and you will want to get one of those custom shirts.
