You are going to love this race. It finishes with a run through famous Lambeau Field, home of the Super Bowl bound Green Bay Packers. The Cellcom Green Bay race weekend has a world-class organization and big-city amenities with a small-town, homey feel. It has beer and brats at the Post race party. It has low-cost, low-hassle travel and accommodations. It has a scenic, fast course through Green Bay and along the Fox River. And has leading-edge technology with E-updates from 5 points on the course.

You can’t help but love the Cellcom Green Bay Marathon because it has so much to offer and is in a unique position to draw from the local sports-loving culture to give you an experience that you will never forget.

This is an event that has just about everything a runner could hope for. It’s a perfect destination race in May. Mark your calendar for May 13-15 to come to Green Bay and take part in this beautiful and unique race. The locals will be in a great mood because their team made the Super Bowl this year and you can bask in the festive atmosphere. Green Bay takes pride in its sports heritage and in putting on a friendly and well organized event that welcomes out-of-towners.

“Running to the cheers and encouragement of the spectators was uplifting. The run through Lambeau was incredible. Overall, it was first class. Excellent volunteers who really cared.”

The Cellcom Green Bay Marathon is celebrating its 12th and has been growing by leaps and bounds; the word has really gotten around and it is now an established mid western classic. Yes, the race has grown over the years, especially after a listing in Runner’s World as one of the 10 ‘most enjoyable’ marathons in the country. This year they are expecting around 14,000 guests, which is still small by big-city marathon standards, with 8,000 runners in the distance events (6,500 in the 1/2 and 3,500 in the full marathon) and the remainder in the 5K and kids’ runs.

A Destination Race…
The Cellcom Green Bay Marathon has above average perks for a small town price. The event has the feel of a well-organized major, is very well planned and takes pride in covering every detail to make the participants’ experience extraordinary. For example, you will receive a well-provisioned goody bag, a really nice performance shirt, newly designed custom medals and you get a good sense of the excellent value. Not enough? How about a large, high-quality expo in the Lambeau Field Atrium with over 60 exhibitors? Finish it off with a post-race tailgate themed block party with great food, beverages and live music and you have an experience you’ll not soon forget.

“The band was really good, I liked the tailgate part, I love how everything is centralized around the Lambeau Field complex, and the volunteers/party zones were very good as always.”

Green Bay is an awesome venue for a destination race. The value is wonderful. Travel and accommodations are reasonable. The Green Bay area is convenient and welcoming whether you are a 50-stater on your 100th or a first time marathoner. If you are simply looking for a great race in a super place you can’t beat the value at Green Bay.

Organization…
One of the signature attributes of the Cellcom Green Bay Marathon is its professional organization and volunteer support. The race focuses on the runner experience and giving the participant a great day – all with their unique Green Bay feel. The venue makes everything easy with all weekend events centered around the Historic Lambeau Field complex.

“The race was well organized. There were lots of volunteers and plentiful aid stations. … We loved the pasta party included in the fee and the fact that the stands were opened for the event. Good finish area. … We also enjoyed the post race brats and other food.”

A consistent comment is the level of positive energy participants get from the volunteers. From the bag check to the 20 aid stations to the 3 gel stations to the jelly beans on the course – the volunteers bring an enthusiasm to the event that all runners appreciate.

Technology…
With the active involvement of a major technology provider, Cellcom, as a sponsor, the Green Bay Marathon brings cutting edge technology to the event. There will be 5 timing mats on the course that send instantaneous E-updates to friends and family of a runner’s progress. This means chip timing with real time progress – text messaging and email as the event unfolds.

In addition, each race bib will have a QR barcode on it that the participant can scan with their smart phone to instantly access on-line results. This level of technology is another special perk that makes the participants’ experience unique at Green Bay.

Course…
If the support and perks weren’t enough, the Cellcom Green Bay Marathon has a great course too. The Full and ½ marathons start on Lombardi Avenue directly in front of the Lambeau Field Atrium on Sunday May 15th 7:00 a.m. The course, owing to the general Green Bay topography, is flat.

“The course was great, and well supported. Lots of aid stations with great volunteers. Registration was quick and well organized.”

“The volunteers were great, the crowds along the route made the running fun…”

For the first 11 miles, runners travel along tree-lined residential streets. Just after 11 miles the ½ marathoners split off and circle back to the finish at Lambeau Field. The marathoners continue through the scenic community of De Pere before entering onto the river trail. The river trail is a nice 12 ft wide asphalt parkway along the Fox River. After navigating the river trail runners take a short tour of downtown Green Bay before making their way back through quiet residential streets into Lambeau Field.

“Running to the cheers and encouragement of the spectators was uplifting. The run through Lambeau was incredible. Overall, it was simply first class. Excellent volunteers who really showed they cared.”

All racers complete the last 1.5 miles running into Lambeau through the player tunnel, around the field and out to finish in the adjacent parking area where a fabulous reception awaits.

Beer and Brats…
If there is anything the enthusiastic sports fans of Green Bay know how to do it’s throw a good old-fashioned tailgate party. After you catch your breath you’ll be treated to free beers (or root beers) and free brats in addition to your standard runners’ fare of bagels, bananas and water, etc.

This is the local color that makes this event unique. This is the core of Green Bay culture. Beyond the excellent organization and wonderful course the local love of sporting events and a good time really come through. Runners can relax, listen to the live band, enjoy their prizes and soak up the atmosphere. Runners and their families often hang around for hours enjoying the post-race Green Bay ambiance.

Weekend itinerary…
The Race Weekend starts Friday May 13th with the Previa Health and Fitness Expo in the Lambeau Field Atrium. You can pick up your packet and peruse 60+ vendors and health and fitness presentations.

Saturday May 14th Lambeau Atrium is open at 7:00 a.m. for packet pickup at the Expo. The 5K race and kids’ runs go off throughout Saturday morning. Every participant gets a complimentary ticket to the Saturday evening pasta dinner within Lambeau Field presented by local chef Leo Dominguez. Packet pickup at the Expo is open until 7:00 p.m.

Sunday May 15th the ½ and full marathons start right outside the stadium at 7:00 a.m. Then the party moves to the parking area as runners finish throughout the day.

Racing…
Those who are looking to post a qualifying time or personal record are in the right place. The flat course lends itself to comparatively fast times. Last year the top 10 men all ran faster than 2:30 and the top ten Women all broke 3:00.

There is a $20K prize purse to attract some good talent. The age group awards go three deep and the overall awards go five deep. If you are looking for a top notch race, the Cellcom Green Bay Marathon is a wonderful choice.
