The DetermiNation Team of the American Cancer Society is a nation wide program that allows you to complete races while supporting the lifesaving mission of the American Cancer Society. And this marathon is in New England, running in Burlington, Vermont on May 27, 2012. You can determine your own goals and challenges for the marathon and draw inspiration from the cause, the team, and the outstanding support provided by the American Cancer Society and the DetermiNation Team. They will help you with great training support and even your fundraising process and goals. You can dedicate your marathon to honor someone fighting cancer or run in memory of someone who lost the battle. You will make a difference in the lives of cancer patients everywhere.

“It takes determination to now endure.
It takes DetermiNation to find a cure.”

Run the marathon course in Burlington on Memorial Day Weekend, and change the course of cancer forever.

Mission Possible
The time is right to join the Determination Team and help to support the tremendous work of the American Cancer Society in their bold goals of fighting cancer. Progress is being made, and a cure for many types of cancer is within reach. Indeed, a turning point in the battle against cancer has been reached; the knowledge and tools to conquer this dread disease are at hand. Everyone has a friend, coworker or relative fighting cancer. The DetermiNation Program is a nation wide community of athletes with excellent localized support with training and fundraising. Through this program thousands of runners have achieved their running or athletic goals while enriching their own lives by helping others. This Team makes every training mile and every stride in the big race that much more meaningful. There is powerful motivation in helping to save and enhance lives. If you cannot participate as a Marathon runner there are many opportunities for folks to participate as volunteers. In fact, this may be an ideal way for family members or close friends to support the runner in their lives AND support the American Cancer Society as a volunteer.

Determination Team Members get special VIP perks, in addition to the sense of “Team” that is palpable in all training and the numerous social gatherings. Remote team members also have great training programs available, and of course everyone will enjoy their own team pre-race Pasta Dinner in Burlington the evening before the big event complete with motivational speakers and a sense of teamwork and pride.

Training Programs and fundraising support are very strong, and proven since the program was launched in 1996 at Chicago. It went fully national in 2007 and has been growing rapidly since.

Participants get training advice and e-mail reminders, fundraising help, online tools, social events and social media, a team shirt from Brooks running gear, recognition and so much more before the race. And on race day there is a VIP team tent, gear check, restroom facilities, changing area, masseuses, cheer teams and a post race get-together.

The Website is an excellent resource with information about the program and participation, donations, volunteering, signing up, training, contacts and connections, mobile apps and social media, sponsorship, fundraising, event details, benefits, alumni, testimonials, cancer prevention, and the American Cancer Society itself.

The KeyBank Vermont City Marathon
This is a great marathon, especially if it is your first. It is exceptionally well organized by an experienced, dedicated group and they really know what they are doing and how to treat their guests, the runners. The Expo and packet pickup will be Friday and Saturday, and even race day morning.

The race gets underway with the wheelchair participants starting at 8:00 a.m. and the marathon and marathon relay runners at 8:03. The start overlooks Lake Champlain and the Burlington harbor. The field is limited to 3,600 marathoners, so you won’t be overwhelmed by throngs of runners. They use the latest B-tag system, so results are quick and accurate. Please visit the terrific Website for all the details on the Expo, packet pick-up and schedule, area guides, course information and map, directions and parking, spectator information, runners’ services, timing, awards, FAQ’s and more: http://www.runvcm.org/ .
