This inaugural event in Kennedale, a small Texas city of about 7,000 in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex, will be an outstanding event, and one that celebrates running and the running lifestyle. It is sponsored primarily by the Redbarn Health Club with help from the collocated Texas Running Center, and provides an excellent opportunity to run a fast and enjoyable half marathon or 5K. They will have some outstanding elite runners to set the pace, and they offer a preferred start position for qualified runners (see the race Website for details). However, one very important key here—ALL runners are welcome, all paces and levels of experience.

They have taken an innovative approach in creating this exciting first time event, certified and sanctioned by USATF. And best of all, it benefits Pay it Forward, a 501 (3)(c), as well as the Texas Running Depot, a community service project that is working to promote that healthy, running lifestyle.

For the speediest racers in the half marathon, cash awards and unique medals are given to the top three finishers overall, and top three masters, women and men. There will be $7,400 in prize money. The half marathon and 5K both have five-year age groups through 80+, and the top three in each will receive custom awards. Additionally, all finishers will receive a medal for completing the course, both races. And all pre-registered participants will get technical T-shirts, women’s sizing available.

The Kids’ 1K Fun Run is an out and back with start and finish just like the pros. All will receive finishing ribbons to mark their achievement. There will be entertainment at the finish for kids and families and music along the half marathon and 5K courses. It will be a great time in Kennedale!

Get Ready to Run!
The running lifestyle and the integrity of the sport are key elements for this organization, led by Race Director Joe Boyle, You can also reach him by phone at 817-561-7952. Or call the Texas Running Center at 817-561-7952. You can visit the race website for information on all things associated with the event: Sponsorship, volunteering, entertainment participation, registration, pickup, race descriptions, course map, contacts, directions and parking.

Things get underway on Friday, December 9, from 2:00 to 9:00 p.m. with packet pick up and late registration available at the Redbarn Health Club, 5860 East Interstate 20, Kennedale, TX 76140. Packet pickup will also be available on Saturday, race day morning, December 10 at the same location beginning at 6:00 a.m. (The start and finish are immediately behind the Redbarn Health Center and Texas Running Center on Gilman Road.) There will also be a delightful pre-race meal and entertainment Friday evening from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m.

Kennedale, Texas
Kennedale is a small city located along Interstate 20 at US Route 287 in northeast Texas, and in the northeast section of the Dallas region. It was founded in 1860 and named for Oliver S. Kennedy, and has an interesting history associated with a growing Texas and the early railroad development.

All who visit remark on what a pleasant, vibrant place it is—perfect location for a new half marathon and the development and growth of the running lifestyle.

Healthy activities such as this race, where elite runners as well as inexperienced new runners can compete at the same time on the same track, are very exciting, and very important. All can participate, either in the half or the 5K—walkers are welcome and they will experience a race venue and the excitement of road racing, perhaps for the first time. Next time maybe they will be a runner. And it is very important that kids get a taste of the competition and the enjoyment of running.

This is truly one you will not want to miss. It is especially exciting to participate in the first event, first annual, especially when you know it is bound to be a true classic and important date on the Texas running calendar and beyond. This event itself is paying it forward for all, the running community and the community at large.
