The Second Annual Narragansett Running Festival – Half Marathon, 10K and 5K
Stonehill College in Easton, Massachusetts is home to this popular Half Marathon and accompanying 10K and 5K road races, with live music, beer (Narragansett, of course), and an exciting post race festival. It runs Sunday, July 13, 2014 on mostly rural and campus roads through Easton and Stoughton, with a storybook course and scenery. It is sponsored by Evolution Sports Performance of Easton and is one of those “gotta be there” summer races in New England.

This is a beautiful course with start and start finish for all three events on the beautiful campus of Stonehill College in convenient Easton, Massachusetts. The half marathon begins and ends on the lovely campus with a “lollipop” course dashing through North Easton and into quiet Stoughton near Stoughton Conservation lands and Ames Long Pond. Meanwhile the 5K is entirely on the Stonehill Campus with a clockwise loop, as is the 10K with a double loop. The half marathon incorporates the 5K campus loop as well on the way out and upon return. It is a very impressive course.

Although Easton is only about 23 miles from Boston, it provides a scenic rural course that will surprise many--through the “Sheep Pasture” of Easton and along farmland and quiet neighborhoods, and it is 95% paved with short stretches (on campus) of pathways and bridges. This is “New England running at its best.”

Yes, this is close to Boston and not far from Providence either, conveniently located on major Route 24, between Interstate 495 and I-93/Route 128. And there is plenty of parking on campus. Please see directions on the race website.

Also, please visit the race website for a wealth of information on the courses with maps and a video of the half marathon course, detailed event info, results, photos, registration, volunteer opportunities, sponsors, area lodging, and much more: http://www.gansettrun.com/

The races and the post race festival are all about fun! Additionally, there is a charitable component, as the race supports Team Intestinal Fortitude and invites participants to join the team. Funds raised will be given to the National Chrohn’s and Colitis Foundation.

The race is named for the iconic New England beer brand, Narragansett, first brewed in 1890 in Cranston, Rhode Island with a rich history and tradition. The brand and rights were purchased by New England investors and it was reintroduced in the spring of 2006 with great success. Many remember the slogan, "Hi, Neighbor, have a 'Gansett!," made even more famous when the brewery was the long-running sponsor of the Boston Red Sox.

The Premier Sponsor for the Narragansett Summer Running Festival is Evolution Sports Performance of Easton, Massachusetts making this race festival a real running happening.

Stonehill College is located at 320 Washington Street in Easton, Massachusetts, 02357, and is a very prominent feature in Easton. The town of Easton has historic roots that run deep in New England. It was the birthplace and later headquarters of Native American leader Metacom, also known as King Philip. It was settled in 1694 and incorporated in 1725 and played a prominent role in the Revolution (Washington visited and stayed there while trying to purchase cannons). There is a prominent historic district with significant structural landmarks from famous architect H.H. Richardson and several landscape projects of Frederick Law Olmstead.

There will be number/packet pick-up available from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. the day before the race, Saturday, July 12; see the race website for details. http://www.gansettrun.com/

Race Day
The Festival will run from morning to mid afternoon with vendors, community organizations, and sponsor booths set up with free give-aways and information on running and health and fitness generally and a healthy lifestyle for all.

As a treat for the kids, there will be the appearance of KO, the kangaroo mascot of the nearby Brockton Rox baseball team. The ‘99’ Restaurant will be offering free popcorn and other goodies, as KO will entertain the kids from about 8:30 to 10:00 a.m.

Packet pick-up will begin on race day at 6:30 a.m. Just follow the signs from ample parking to Donohue Hall, the center of festivities. The 5K blasts off first at 8:00 a.m., followed by the half marathon at 8:15 and the 10K at 8:30.

Live music will begin with the post race ceremonies at 10:00 a.m. and run through 1:00 p.m., and the same goes for the Narragansett Beer Garden, also 10:00 to 1:00 p.m.

The post race celebrations, music and beer garden will be only steps from the finish!

This event will become a classic for summer racing in New England, a regional magnet for many and only in its second year! The accompanying 5K and 10K allows everyone to get into the action in a big-time event with the kids’ options making it a lively day of family fun as well.

Awards and Rewards
The top 3 overall men and women will receive trophy awards in all three races. In addition to the commemorative race shirts that runners of all three races get, the half marathon finishers get a beautiful custom crafted finisher’s medal. Each race will have 10-year age groups through 70+, and the top two in each age group—again all three races—will be awarded Festival beer mugs. The post race Festival and cold beer, live music and fun atmosphere will reward everyone's workout; but the real reward is simply running these fabulous courses.

Yes, these courses are beautiful! They are quiet and peaceful, with just enough roll to be invigorating—some would say challenging but scenic and enjoyable.
