The 11th annual Rhody 5K at the Twin River complex in Lincoln, Rhode Island is a small race with big rewards. This race takes place on Sunday, June 6th RAIN or SHINE! Rhody has it all, Championship caliber athletes, weekend warriors of every pace and ability, and a kids’ race. The post-race BBQ is considered to be among the best in New England. All that and there is $5,700 in (individual and team) prizes!

“The only thing that truly changes about this race is the weather,” says Howard Kramer of DMSE Sports, the well-know organization that administers these events. “Other than that, we strive to constantly maintain the high standard that was set 11 years ago. We have a great formula of real competition among the grand prix participants and an easy 5K course that can bring out the competitor in anyone. The kids have a great time watching their parents run and also having their own pint size race. It’s a great event and its closer to the city of Boston than people may realize.” Directions are on the website at www.rhody5k.com along with a wealth of information.

Registration is 8:00 a.m. to 9: 15 a.m. on race morning at Twin River’s South Entrance. Men’s start will be at 9:30 a.m.; Women’s start at 10:00 a.m., and Kids Race kicks off at 10:45 a.m. It is $22 pre-entry; $25 post-entry (race day only), and the kids’ race is free. The Kids’ races will be held on the track: distances range from 1/4 mile (1 lap) on down depending on age group for children ages 12 and under. Children will receive a participatory gift - while supplies last.

This race is managed by DMSE Sports, Inc. DMSE (Dave McGillivray Sports Enterprises) has been managing world class events for more than three decades. The Rhody 5K is sanctioned by USA Track and Field New England.

The races start at the Twin River South entrance, and finishes on the track. Most of the race is on the Twin River grounds, with about one mile on adjacent roadways. The Kids’ race is great fun for the youngest among us as they run along the actual track, which is also the finish of the 5K.
On-line registration is in progress, and race day registration and packet pick up will be available from 8:00 a.m. to 9:15 a.m. near the Twin River South entrance. Please go to www.rhody5k.com for additional details and directions. The address is 100 Twin River Road, Lincoln, Rhode Island, 02865.

As a USATF New England Grand Prix event, it will be highly competitive and run at a championship level with some of the region’s best competing. It is also an event geared to new and beginning runners, those who are new to racing, and to families looking for a healthy and enjoyable day for the entire family.
This race is part of the 2010 Grand Prix Series. Last year’s Grand Prix men’s winner was Luke Meyer. Marisa Ryan took first place for the women. This year only the men’s Grand Prix will take place as part of the Rhody 5K. Other races include: Jones Realty Group 10 Mile; New Bedford Half Marathon; Bedford Rotary 12K, Rhody 5K, Stowe 8 Miler, Bridge of Flowers 10K, Providence Ronald McDonald House Women’s 5K and the Baystate Marathon.

The Rhody 5K benefits The Tomorrow Fund and the Lincoln Days Committee. The Tomorrow Fund, based in Providence, Rhode Island, was founded in 1985 by a group of local citizens. The Tomorrow Fund is an independent non-profit clinic providing financial and emotional support to the families of children stricken with cancer. The Lincoln Days Committee, Lincoln, RI is a charitable endeavor that emphasizes town unity. Their motto includes, “The way we were, the way we are, the way we will be”.

Thanks to the generosity of sponsors who help defray many of the costs, this race has raised more than $775,000 over the past decade for their charitable partners.

Twin River has invested over $220 million on this enormous gaming and entertainment complex, with three restaurants plus multiple food courts; there are intimate entertainment settings as well as large venues for top headline stars, and they have spacious gaming areas too. You will be impressed with the facility, so check with www.twinriver.com for more details.

The 11th Annual Rhody 5K is a sure thing for family fun. You can bet on it! Come to run, stay for the food and entertainment!! Visit www.twinriver.com/specialevents.php for details.
