I guarantee that the inaugural Diva’s Half Marathon on Sunday, October 3rd is unlike anything you’ve ever experienced at a race, especially since it comes complete with feather boas, tiaras, an ‘ageless’ age group and hunky firemen handing out medals. The entire weekend centers on women—celebrating all participants as the strong and powerful individuals that they are. Get ready for a diva-licious time and become part of this unique women’s-only initial event! Register today at

This is part of the Women’s National Running Series established by Continental Event and Sports Management Group, LLC, a Miami/Knoxville-based company created to produce world-class endurance events with a race director having past accomplishment the likes of founding and directing the ING Miami Marathon & Half Marathon, executive directing the ING Georgia Marathon and Chicago Half Marathon, and even directing an Olympic Trials event for the Beijing Olympics. When asked what inspired Robert Pozo, executive race director of the series, to produce such an event, he stated, “This is an event for all women to participate and support each other. This is an opportunity for all women to feel strong, proud and excited about being a girl, a woman, a mom and of course… a DIVA!”

This race is just the beginning of something special. The Diva’s Half Marathon and Girl’s 5K are the first races in this series of women-only running events throughout the U.S. and its territories. Other upcoming races include the Wahine Half Marathon in Honolulu, Hawaii (April 17, 2011), and the Mujer Half Marathon in San Juan, Puerto Rico (November 13, 2011). . Continental also produces the Myrtle Beach Mini Marathon taking place in Myrtle Beach, SC on October 24.

Get Your Groove On and Get Ready to Rock
Your multi-day weekend of Diva events starts on Friday October 1st with The Health and Fitness Boutique running through Saturday. Will also include a Friendship Run Saturday morning, “Movie in the Park” at the Eisenhower Amphitheater on Saturday evening; and then the half marathon and 5K on Sunday. With a long weekend packed full of activities, the Diva’s Half Marathon and Girl’s 5K makes for the perfect mother/daughter weekend or all-girls’ getaway vacation.

And every diva knows it takes a little bit of prep time to get ready for a big event—that means shopping! The Diva’s Half Marathon Health & Fitness Boutique is the place to go for your pre-race essentials and a few things with which to spoil yourself after the finish.

The free Health & Fitness Boutique, Friday, October 1st and Saturday, October 2nd at the Mitchell Athletic Complex in Uniondale, New York, features more than 30 exhibitors and free samples of the latest women’s trends, designs and advancements in fitness products, running shoes and apparel. Runners will also pick up their goodie bags and race packets containing race numbers, timing chips and women’s fit technical wicking T-shirt at the boutique.

Making An Entrance and Strutting Your Stuff
Both races start at Eisenhower Park in East Meadow, New York, a 930-acre recreational facility featuring three 18-hole golf courses; an open-air theater; an aquatic center pool and various sports fields and courts. The starting line is conveniently located just one mile from the Long Island Marriott, the race’s host hotel and Diva Central, meaning that you can get every minute of your beauty sleep and still get to the starting line with plenty of time to spare.

The one-loop Diva’s Half Marathon starts at 8:00 a.m. and features a corral start, giving every runner a chance to line up according to her expected or goal pace. And since this is a fast and flat course, set your sights on that personal best finish time!

If don’t plan to run the half marathon, but you’re a diva that wants to get in on some of the action—run the Girl’s 5K instead. The Girl’s 5K starts at Eisenhower Park at 8:15 a.m. and travels throughout the park. And if you’re a guy who wants to support the diva in your life—you can register and run the 5K as well. Show everyone what a tough guy really is by running the Girl’s 5K!

When the gun goes off and the fun starts, you will take a lap through Eisenhower Park, past your friends, family and your other adoring fans as you head out on the 13.1-mile running party. After exiting the park at Merrick Avenue North, runners head south and turn onto Charles Lindberg Boulevard, just after mile four, to run through the Nassau County Hub. Look around and soak up the greatness as you pass local landmarks like the RXR’s Omni Building, Museum Row, the Mitchell Athletic Complex and the Nassau Coliseum—home to professional hockey team the New York Islanders and concert venue for hundreds of performers since it opened in 1972.

Now the party’s just getting started. Half marathon divas will turn left onto Merrick Avenue along the perimeter of Eisenhower Park, north toward Old Country Road and then onto Salisbury Park Drive. Along the way, you can rock out to bands and dj’s playing all-time favorite girl power songs while receiving Gold Star treatment at each of the eight Diva Refresh and Renew stations, which start at mile two and serve water and lemon-lime Gatorade

Worried about the paparazzi along the course? Want to be sure your fans get a glimpse of you in action? If you have an entourage of adoring fans who want to get in on the fun, but don’t want to run, have them sign up to be part of the “Want-To-Be-Loud-Cheerleaders” group. Contact race officials via email: and they’ll find your fans some prime viewing and cheering space on the course.

Just before mile 12, all runners have a chance to polish their inner diva and remind themselves of all the hard work they put in to get them to this point. Glam it up at the Feather Boa and Tiara station and prepare to make your entrance through the finishing chute. At the finish line, you are officially crowned a diva—and are rewarded generously. All finishers are adorned with a glamorous finisher’s medal and handed a rose and flute of champagne by one of the cities’ finest firemen or policemen.

It may sound hard to believe, but you might be so enamored by your medal that you don’t even notice the hunk putting it around your neck. This one-of-a-kind DIVA medal is a sweet piece of bling that sparkles, spins and even has a spot for you to place your own finish line photo.

Party Like a Diva
Every diva knows it’s all about the party. And the Diva’s Half Marathon Finish Line and Dance Party is a post-race celebration like no other. Wear your medal proudly, sip champagne and dance the night away with one of several handsome men from some local dance schools. All the half marathon work is done, and the Finish Line and Dance Party is your chance to kick back, enjoy being queen for a day and party like, well, like only a diva can!

The Finish Line party will also host the age group awards ceremony. Age group awards will be given to the top three overall participants and custom medals will be awarded to the first three finishers in each age group division of the Diva’s Half Marathon and Girl’s 5K. Are you feeling like a true diva? Don’t want to divulge your real age? The Diva’s Half Marathon also has an “Ageless” age group from those of you who plan to remain 29 years old forever.

The mission of Continental Events is to offer an unparalleled sports experience that showcases host communities and endures as a deeply valued local asset through events that are a part of the city’s culture, identity and brand. The Diva’s Half Marathon on Long Island is a prime example. For each participant, Continental Events strives to offer experiences that allow participants of all skill levels the opportunity to improve their physical and mental health, and accomplish life-altering goals while having fun.

The Diva’s Half Marathon and Girl’s 5K on Long Island will be unique, truly a weekend to remember. Pack your feather boa, grab your tiara and get ready to let your inner diva strut her stuff. Don’t miss out on your chance to be pampered for an entire weekend and cheered on for your fierceness from the starting line through mile 13.1.
