Don’t miss out. Show your coworkers and friends what running and fitness is all about. Join over 5,000 elites, mid-packers, runners, walkers, strollers, wheelchairs and celebrants Thursday after work August 9th at 6:20 PM. Be part of an event that lights up the streets of Manchester in a grand celebration of health and fitness. You will definitely feel that you were part of something big!
The CIGNA/Elliot Corporate 5k Road Race excels at many levels. First, the event is an awesome corporate event with small, medium and large companies fielding teams from around the region. Second, it is a big celebration of health and fitness supporting the mission of the primary sponsors. Third, it is a well managed fast 5K race for all abilities from elites to walkers.
The combination of these elements creates a ‘happening’ in Veterans Park that is an amazing buzz for all participants. CIGNA and The Elliot have found a way to combine all the elements together in such a way to create a whole that is bigger than its parts.
"When will I be able to register for my favorite race? The race which in fact inspired me to take up running more seriously."
John Schulman, North Andover, Massachusetts.
With a motto of A Business of Caring CIGNA Healthcare ‘walks the talk’ by sponsoring many prominent athletic events in the region.
Picture a warm sultry August afternoon. Picture a green park thronged with thousands of celebrants of all abilities with their corporate banners flying like a great golden hoard preparing for battle. Picture a city of proud red brick mills and wide thoroughfares snug tight against the mighty Merrimack River. Picture, if you can imagine it, all these thousands come together for a great celebration, a great race and a great time. Close your eyes and you can feel the buzz.
Bring out your company team!
The race welcomes all runners and individuals and it particularly specializes in corporate teams.
"All companies in New Hampshire dream of opportunities to get their name out there. All want to have their employees show off the corporate logos and banners, develop employee fitness and wellness programs, and vastly improve employee morale. How much would they pay for a company team-building outing? Plenty. And they do, but I've got a cheaper and more effective solution. You can send me those consultants' fees folks - here it is, here's your answer. Have your employees participate as a team in the CIGNA/Elliot Corporate 5K Road Race, then watch the magic happen..."
Skip Cleaver, The Telegraph, Nashua, NH.
Wouldn’t it be great if your co-workers and family and friends really understood why you love running? Wouldn’t it be fantastic if you could get them out on the roads with you? Or maybe you’re looking for a way to jump start a fitness program at your company? Here’s your chance to round them up and have them experience an electrifying 5K. The CIGNA/Elliot Corporate 5k Road Race will leave such a positive impression on everyone they will be begging you to take them next year.
Instead of remembering the sweat and effort they’ll remember the thrill of finishing hand in hand with over 5,000 other athletes. They’ll remember the camaraderie and the commitment of crossing the line together. Wouldn’t it be great if everyone else in your office could experience the thrill of their first race? Talk about a great team building exercise! What could be more positive than the whole crew crossing the finish line together?
Go ahead and grab them all. Get the proud sales people out of their suits and into some running shoes. Get the secretaries and the executives out of the conference rooms. Collect up the cubicle dwellers. Even get that strange little guy from the computer room! Enlist them all in your corporate team and give them the gift of health and fitness.
Here’s how it works. There are small, medium and large company team categories. There are prizes for the teams with the highest cumulative scoring of their top 5 age class finishers. There are prizes for the companies with most participants and the largest teams. If you register by the middle of July they will print your logo and/or company name on the back of the T-shirt. How cool is that? They encourage corporations to bring their banners to the park. This gives the park a feel like a wild, euphoric nominating convention. The positive energy is huge.
"We really love participating in the CIGNA/Elliot Corporate 5K. It's a nice way to show our company spirit and it supports our wellness program. It fits right in with other Kollsman efforts to promote good health - offering CIGNA health insurance, renovating our company gym, adding a variety of fitness programs and putting a healthier spin on our cafeteria menu - all have been well-received by our employees."
Randy Moore, General Manager, Kollsman, Merrimack, NH
If you think you have a fast collection of runners you can enter as a male, female or Co-Ed team and you will be scored accordingly. You need 5 people for a team, if you have more your top 5 will be scored.
A “small team” is for companies with 5-15 employees. A “medium team” is for companies with 16-99 employees, and a “large team” is for companies with 100+ employees.
The corporate aspect is a unique fixture of this race and it makes sense to me. Consider all the ineffective and silly things that corporate America drags its employees off to each year in hopes of sparking some collegial bonding. Build a corporate team for the CIGNA/Elliot Corporate 5k Road Race instead. You get a much healthier outcome and treat your fellow employees to a big thrilling event that they can be proud of for years. Who knows, this may be the spark that causes someone to start running, walking or exercising regularly. Share the gift of fitness.
A Big Celebration in Manchester
The CIGNA/Elliot Corporate 5K Road Race is one of the biggest events in New England this summer. The event successfully embraces Health and Fitness with a ferocity born of its mission. The event brings a party atmosphere with food and music to Veterans Park. It’s a big celebration and everyone has a great time.
There is a reason that this is one of the largest corporate races in the USA and one of the largest 5k’s in New England. When two of the regions leading health companies throw their weight behind an event like this the resulting buzz is incredible. For a decade-and-a-half the CIGNA/Elliot Corporate 5K Road Race has established itself as a preeminent event in New England. And it’s not just New Englanders…people come from all over the world to participate -England, Italy, Kenya, Russia, - just to name a few. The event welcomes all comers and delivers a great experience.
You will be on T.V. That’s right; the whole start is televised on WMUR T.V. Set the TIVO to capture you and your team in those cute running outfits streaming happily by the cameras. There are also radio broadcasts by 96.5 The Mill ongoing from the park. All the local celebrities and officials come out to join the merrymaking. The CIGNA/Elliot Corporate 5K Road is like a mini-Woodstock for health and fitness!
The festivities take over Veterans Park in Manchester for the day. The park is located at the intersection of Elm and Merrimack Streets. The Park is also the registration and awards site. Veterans Park is located close to the start and finish and is easy to get to with plenty of room for the crowds to spread out and get psyched up for the race. Pick up your t-shirts, pins, bib numbers and chips between noon and 6:00 p.m.
A race for everyone
"We've got guys who were Division 1 All-American runners, but we've also got people who have never been in a race before. I've run about 500 races, and I've never found a race like this where you can have very elite runners, but also a lot of walkers. It's just so well organized that it really works."
Bill Baller, WPI, Worcester, Massachusetts.
The CIGNA/Elliot Coporate 5K Road Race is a race for everyone. The event prides itself on being all inclusive. This does not mean there are no serious runners. Many elites use this as a warm up race for late summer events. Last year Alene Reta won the men’s division in 14:42; that’s a 4:44 pace! Alemtsehay Misganaw took the Women’s in 16:39; a speedy 5:22 pace. In fact there were 123 runners finishing under a 6 mpm pace!
The course is a fast closed 5K through downtown Manchester. The fast USA Track and Field Certified 5K (3.1 mile) loop starts at Amherst and Elm Streets, heading north on Elm, west on Thayer, south on River Road and Canal Street and finishing on Merrimack Street, next to Veterans Park.
Scoring, for those of you fast enough to care about such things, will be on 5-year age groups, from age 14 to 80+. There are awards for Masters and also for New Hampshire residents. There’s also a $1,000 bonus for breaking the course record, currently held by Joseph Mwai (13:54.8) and Marie Davenport (15:38.4).
The start goes off in three waves. First the elites and serious runners go, then the mid-packers then the walkers. This way people are not stumbling over each other and everyone has a good time. There is chip timing by ChampionChip® so each runner has their time and attendance individually tracked.
There is plenty of water/refreshment and support on the course. The organizers take great care to make sure everyone knows about the ‘joys’ of running in hot weather. As you would imagine, given the sponsors and the theme of the event, medical support on and off the course is plentiful. In addition to the T-shirt every participant will get a finisher’s award. There will be post-race refreshments in the park for all. The entry fee is only $15 if you pre-register. Register on-line here.
Manchester is easy to get to and easy to navigate. Just head up (or down) Rte. 93 and look for signs for 293. Coming north, take the Granite St. exit (5), cross the bridge and you’re there. Check the website for parking choices. If you come south on 93 take exit 6 on 293 which is the Amoskeag Bridge

What better way to raise awareness of fitness and wellness than a big ‘ole running party in the park?
The event encompasses many aspects of health and fitness and ties in many health organizations. It gives heath, wellness and fitness a grand forum for awareness and change.
Proceeds from the race will support Child Health Services and Easter Seals New Hampshire, Inc.
The Easter Seals mission is to ensure that individuals with disabilities have an equal opportunity to live, learn, work and play in their community.
Child Health Services is dedicated to improving the health and well being of children from low income families in the Greater Manchester area.
