The 10th Annual Medical Center 6K--USATF-New England Championship and Grand Prix Event
Set for Mothers Day, May 8, 2011, in downtown Nashua, New Hampshire, this is one of seven races in the highly rated New England Grand Prix, and the only one in the Granite State. Ten years! This exciting event, sponsored by the Southern New Hampshire Medical Center, has something for everyone in the family, a fantastic celebration of health, fitness and fun.

The tenth annual Medical Center 6K in downtown Nashua, New Hampshire will be the USATF-NE 6K Championship, and one of seven races to be named to the prestigious New England Grand Prix. The Medical Center 6K joins an impressive list of events for the 2011 series, one of the best USATF Association series in the country. It will run on MOther's Day at 9:30 a.m. This convenient start time allows everyone to complete their race, get the day off to a great start, and still have plenty of time to spend with Mom or spouse on that special day for mothers of all ages.
It will be a really special race this Mother’s Day. The Medical Center 6K welcomes runners of all ages and abilities. Go ahead and mark this one on your spring race calendar right away! You won’t want to miss this gem of a race. Bring your mom and experience a departure from an ordinary Mother’s Day; it will be truly memorable. And because all the race proceeds go to the New Hampshire Breast Cancer Coalition’s Support Services Fund, you will enjoy the satisfaction of helping others in need. Mom will be proud!
This challenging 6K is a unique distance at 3.73 miles. It comes as no surprise that the race was selected as the USATF New England Championship and Grand Prix race. But that is just one of the many on a long list of attributes that makes the Southern New Hampshire Medical Center 6K stand out on the race calendar. This event features a picturesque, well managed course, plenty of amenities, an excellent race organization, gift certificate awards, a fitness walk, and the chance to nominate your mom as Grand Marshal!
The Medical Center 6K, which also features a 1.25-mile Fit Walk, is a wonderful blend of many noteworthy traditions. Since 2002, Southern New Hampshire Medical Center has used this race as a platform for promoting and celebrating health, fitness and wellness in the community.

The Medical Center 6K is also the third race in the New Hampshire Grand Prix series, which begins on March 27 with the Manchester Shamrock Shuffle 2-Miler and ends with the Footrace for the Fallen 5K on October 16, also in Manchester.
The race has always been a kick off for the Fitness University for Kids program administered by the Gate City Striders. This award winning program is now in its 22nd year and is more important than ever in the efforts to guard against childhood obesity. Thanks to the tireless efforts of the Gate City Striders, who have expertly organized and managed it through the years, this successful program enjoys a great reputation with parents and kids who expect quality each summer.

Runners of all abilities will delight in the small town atmosphere of downtown Nashua. The tree-lined course starts at the Medical Center’s downtown campus at 10 prospect Street and heads southward, winding through several city neighborhoods. It cuts through the Rivier College campus, passes the fairways of the Nashua Country Club golf course, and loops back to the start.
Walkers will step off behind runners on a separate course at 10 Prospect Street. The 1.25-mile walkers’ course winds through area neighborhoods ending at the corner of Dearborn and Prospect Streets. This enjoyable walk is an ideal Mother’s Day activity for all the non-runners in the family who want to be part of the action and fun. Registration is quite reasonable, and kids 12 and under register for free for either the 6K race or 2K walk.
Nominate Your Mom
The race as traditionally been held on Mother’s Day. It is fitting that the special woman chosen as Grand Marshal is someone who embodies the spirit of fitness and exercise, lifestyle changes, and or triumphs over medical setbacks. If you have an inspirational story about your mom and would like to share it, you can nominate her for Grand Marshal - an amazing tribute that will make this Mother’s Day unforgettable.
Last Year's Winners and Records
Last year’s female and male winners were Heidi Westover of Walpole, New Hampshire, and another Granite State runner, Josh Ferenc of alstead with times of 20:56 and 19:26 respectively.
Course records are held by Stephanie Reilly of Whitensville, Massachusetts with a time of 20:41, and by Benjamin Ndaya of Lowell, Massachusetts with a time of 18:20; both were set in 2008. The overall female and male winners will each receive awards, as will male and female age group winners and will include gift certificates. There are three youth divisions, then 10-year age groups through 70+. The Annual Southern New Hampshire Health System President’s Cup is presented to Southern New Hampshire Medical Center or Foundation of Medical Partners for the group with the fastest three top runners.
You will want to stick around after the race for fun filled post race celebration. You can opt for a free massage or just relax and spend some quality time with friends and family celebrating your latest fitness achievement. There will be lots of fruit and yogurt and of course the race specialty – southern New Hampshire Medical Center’s Famous Buffalo Chili.
The New Hampshire Breast Cancer’s Coalition Support Services Fund is a resource for patients who have exhausted all options for financial assistance. Anyone with a diagnosis of breast cancer living or being treated in New Hampshire is eligible to apply.
The NHBCC welcomes your involvement in the battle against breast cancer. Please join the race to help end this deadly disease that affects so many New Hampshire women and their families.
USATF-New England Grand Prix
This legendary New England Grand Prix is one of the top regional race series in the country, any way you measure it—quality of races and level of competition. Few of the other 57 USATF Associations around the country can match this outstanding series.
The 2011 version kicks off on March 20 with the New Bedford Half Marathon. The Medical Center 6K on May 8 will be the third of seven races, with races in four states, closing with the Cape Cod Marathon on October 30 in Falmouth, Massachusetts. This is the second selection to the Grand Prix for the Medical Center 6K and. The other races have been included in previous years, except for the Carver Five Mile which is a first.
