Yes, it is New Hampshire’s largest road race. Since its inception almost two decades ago the CIGNA/Elliot Corporate 5K Road Race has been the largest race in New Hampshire, and one of the largest in New England. It is in the top 20 largest 5K’s in the USA and is often in the top 100 largest timed races in the USA. Close to 6,000 runners and walkers participate and thousands more are spectators along the course to cheer the participants on. It’s a unique occasion that you shouldn’t miss. Joining a running celebration of this magnitude is a great experience, right in heart of New Hampshire.

Among New Hampshire’s Fastest too
Serious runners take heart. This is not just a big party race but is a fast USATF-certified course with plenty of elite competition. Runners from around the world come to compete. The CIGNA/Elliot Corporate 5K Road Race boasts the fastest official time for a 5K in NH with the only official sub-14 minute finish for a UASTF certified course; achieved by Alene Reta (13:53) in the 2009 race.

Proactively creating health and wellness
What makes this event special, besides the big crowds and the celebration of fitness, is the perfect alignment of the race with the wellness agenda of the main sponsors CIGNA HealthCare and Elliot Health System.

The organizers have created and sponsored the race as a way to get people out and get them active. It is the mission of everyone involved to enable people to use the race to start or maintain a fitness program. Finishing the race is great incentive to get started, to proactively get folks off the couch get them started on a healthy exercise program.

“As a celebration of health and fitness the race is a great way to get started on your personal road to fitness. What could be more rewarding than starting a walking or running program by setting a goal to finish the race,” said Don Curry, president of CIGNA HealthCare in New England. “Many companies have found the race a great way to start a corporate fitness program as well.”

It is the mission of both organizations. More and more Americans are realizing the health cost of an inactive life style and these organizations have created, sponsored and nurtured the CIGNA/Elliot Corporate 5K Road Race to proactively do something about it.

"Elliot is proud to join CIGNA in presenting the road race because it is a unique day with health, wellness and fitness at its core," said Doug Dean, President and CEO of Elliot Health System. "Seeing thousands of individuals come out to show spirit for their corporate team while achieving individual fitness goals is inspiring and truly exciting to see!"

CIGNA and Elliot champion the CIGNA/Elliot Corporate 5K Road Race as a key way to move the community from a ‘sick care’ system to a ‘health care’ system. This alignment of corporate cultures behind the event creates a welcoming sense of ownership for the runners, walkers and joggers who line up in the park on Thursday night. When business, civic action and altruism align, everybody wins.

Corporate Teams
One of the great features of the CIGNA/Elliot Corporate 5K Road Race is the encouragement of corporate teams. Many companies field teams of 5 or more that are then eligible for special registration rates, corporate T-shirts, and special category prizes.

Just as important as the high level of participation year after year is the way companies use the CIGNA/Elliot Corporate 5K Road Race as a leverage point to get employees involved in something positive and active. Companies build active employee health programs around the event and use it to support employees in that healthy lifestyle; and to spread the message of exercise and good health. It’s also a great team building activity.

Something for everyone - Walkers welcome and encouraged
Sure the CIGNA/Elliot Corporate 5K Road Race has among the fastest 5K times in NH, but it isn’t a race just for elite runners. The race has something for everyone and welcomes recreational runners, walkers, kids and wheelchair entrants. It’s a ‘big tent’ event, everyone is welcome and everyone has fun.

There is a wave start so you are in a group of people with like skills and pace. However, no one is checking on how fast or slow you go or whether you walk. Everyone at the CIGNA/Elliot Corporate 5K Road Race is a winner for making the effort to get up off the couch, come down to the park and enjoy the event!

Beautiful Manchester in the heart of New Hampshire; in the heart of New England.
The red-brick gem of Manchester NH, the Queen City, sits proudly on the banks of the Merrimack River about an hour’s ride north of Boston. New Hampshire’s largest city has a long and storied history. The great mills, once water-powered and in the forefront of the industrial revolution, have now been taken over by a new wave of business success.

The resurgence of Manchester is a success story in New England and great news for participants and supporters of the CIGNA/Elliot Corporate 5K Road Race. The city is full of great restaurants and activities. Many of these restaurants will throw open their doors and welcome runners for post race parties with special events, special offers and discounts. Jillian’s Restaurant, at the corner of Commercial and Granite Streets, will host the official post-race party.

You’re going to be on Television!
WMUR, New Hampshire’s statewide television station, broadcasts the start of the race as a segment on the 6:00 news. So make sure you wave to the cameras as you cross the starting mat. You know an event is a big deal when the local station covers it on T.V.

Fast Course runs through the heart of the City
New Hampshire is known for its mountains, but you won’t find any on this course. The race follows a tight loop through the streets of the city and is as fast as a high-school track meet.

This is a well practiced and well organized event that prides itself on runner and volunteer support. There are timing clocks at each mile and full hydration stations on the course. There is, of course, plenty of medical support along the course and at the park.

Participants will be able to pick up their race materials for the CIGNA/Elliot Corporate 5K Road Race at Veterans Park from 12:00 noon to 6:00 p.m. on race day and pre-register at the race website at
